Guest SSR Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Hi folks, Another one with Tom-Tom problems. I have v4 installed. I am using a BT GPS receiver. I can get the two to pair and have followed the guides on resetting, deleting the connection and restarting it. When I start Tom-Tom the GPS receiver is flashing showing a link *but* Tom-Tom says the connection is lost. Any ideas? TIA

TIA <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If it says No GPS Device, then it aint found it, try renaming to TomTom Wireless GPS if you haven't already. If it says No valid GPS Signal, then it just means your GPS hasnt locked onto enough satellites, go outside wait 5 mins and try again. Edited May 24, 2005 by ElGato65
Guest MonkeyJug Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 make sure you have installed the update/patch/crack - call it what you want... then rename your gps receiver to TomTom Wireless GPS go into configurations on the main smartphone menu and choose BT SerialPortSetup and tick com7 reboot, and bob's your mother's brother...
Guest SSR Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 (edited) Thanks for the replies. If it says No GPS Device, then it aint found it, try renaming to TomTom Wireless GPS if you haven't already. If it says No valid GPS Signal, then it just means your GPS hasnt locked onto enough satellites, go outside wait 5 mins and try again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've done the renaming (having followed the previous guides) so that part should be OK. I've also gone through the deleting COM port and GPS device, then re-enabling COM port and syncing/adding of the GPS again. Perhaps there is an issue with the GPS, but it shows a red light which the manual describes as it having found a satellite. make sure you have installed the update/patch/crack - call it what you want... then rename your gps receiver to TomTom Wireless GPS go into configurations on the main smartphone menu and choose BT SerialPortSetup and tick com7 reboot, and bob's your mother's brother... Daft question, but where would I find the update/patch/crack? I have TomTom 4.XX something installed. I've renamed the GPS receiver to the correct name and have done the COM port set-up (I've tried with just COM7 enabled, and both COM6 and COM7). Any more ideas? Although I guess I need to try this patch thing... Edit: Would the fact that the mobile is unlocked make any difference? I can't see that it would... Edited June 21, 2005 by awarner [MVP]
Guest SSR Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Just as followup. My GPS had been found, but the GPS device itself was poorly documented and hadn't found a GPS satellite (it didn't say in the instructions what indication would have been given, but a solid red light meant no satellite, and a flashing red light meant satellite acquired). Once the satellite was found, all worked fine.

Thinking about getting another unit, but we'll see how it goes. Chris
