I need a phone with both 850 and 900 frequency bands, 850/1900 for the US and 900/1800 for Asia/Europe. Ideally, I would have bought a quad band phone, but I'm tired of waiting for the MPX 220 and I don't trust it either.

From my reading on this forum, it appears that the 5600 is capable of supporting the 850 and the 900 bands, with different flashes.

I want to know if I can buy a 5600, get it unlocked and flash different ROM images to switch between 850/1800/1900 and 900/1800/1900. I don't mind the process of flashing a different ROM, provided I can switch back and forth.

Thanks in advance,

RoastBoar.

A long time ago I explored this option. After thorough testing it was determined that there are actual hardware differences that will prevent you from using the 900mhz band despite it appearing as though it works after flashing to say an Orange ROM.

Sorry about that. I will say though that after traveling through Asia and Europe in the past 6 months I was just fine with 1800 only. Check GSMWorld to see if you really need the 900mhz... I would bet you don't.
