The q in QVGA means quarter.

VGA means something graphics adaptop, but has been appropriated as a description of the 640x480 resolution.

Q= quarter? You know i would have never guessed that even though its obvious... 4 QVGAs make 1 VGA. ;)

Anyway, VGA = Video Graphics Array... IBM, the original PC creator came up with it. Its pretty much the bottom of the line de facto standard for PC displays.

duh!!! silly me, of course its video.

The minimum now is really SVGA (800x600) on computers today, and even now pretty well all desktops come with 17", XGA (1024x768) displays.

I know, I know ..... 4 QVGA screen can fit in 1 VGA = quarter .... ;)

Or even ..... A1 A2 A3 A5 etc etc ..... works for paper !!!

Even better why not just say "its screen resolution is X by X" ;)

Why did they make the "A" paper sizes go downwards? I mean A1 is the biggest.

First PCs were M(onochrome)DA (greenscreens) then came CGA (colour graphics adaptor) (320 X200 X 4 colours)

Then E(xtended)GA (640 X 350 X 16 colours) then V(ideo)GA (640 X 480 X 16 colours or 320 X 200 at 256 colours) then S(uper)VGA (800 X 600 X 256 colours) then X(tended)GA (1024 X 768)

After that they gave up on the TLAs. There were various adaptions of the standards but these were AFAIR the main ones.

And just to confuse things further theres 2 definitions of what VGA is on a WM device.b MS say it's just the same screen area as a QVGA device.. but the extra pixels just make it look prettier.. Using some hack software you can get TRUE VGA mode which works like the resolution on your PC.. ie all the icons are smaller but you can see more of them
