I dropped my SMT 5600 and the faceplate cracked. LCD still works fine. Anyone know where I can purchase a new one or get it fixed other than shipping to Audiovox

I bought one on EBay. The orange faceplate fits fine. One thing: the ones you buy on ebay do NOT have the foam seal. I used double-stick foam tape as a substitute, and I think it actually works much better against dust!

This was for a 5600? What did you pay for the faceplate? Was it a pain to do?

just had a look on ebay UK - i am interested in buying one - they are going for between £10 - £15. Looks like they are gettin more expensive as checked the feedback of some of the sellers and they were going for £5.99.

No idea what these are in pretend money ($)

Proper Orange branded facsias and buttons only (no backs).

Somebody somewhere must have a boxful of them. Jammy blighters.

Theres also dummy phones for sale but there are a lot of disclaimsers in their descriptions - dont know if you can use these with c500

The dummy phones are fine - but they are glued together. It's easy to get them apart by ruining the back which is probably where the others come from but like Cylon says, they do not have the foam seal. They can be used for the 5600 but do have Orange branding.

People have succesfully got the back off by using superglue remover and being careful. i just hacked mine off as I only needed the number pad.

It's not too tough. From what I have seen (I bought two, just in case) and it worked fine on my SMT 5600. I used the double sided foam tape to seal the LCD. The joystick button doesn't seem like it would work too well... I think the clips on the back of the joystick are missing (compared to the one on my SMT).

Had to search for SPV C500. It does say orange, but works fine on SMT 5600. Get some thin double-sided foam tape from the local store. The link to take it apart is in the "C500 dust" threads (one of them).

Also, to prevent a future drop, I recommend the flexi-skin (silicone jacket). I've had mine for 6 months now, dropped it 3 times (can you believe I fly jets with these hands!) and it bounces around in my leg flightsuit pocket... No scratches, no dents. I repaced the facia because I got the bright idea one day of "polishing" the screen after my son put a TINY nick on the screen (the only part the jacket doesn't cover)... yeah it melted.
