Guest evilking Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 Is worth buying a c500 now that there are other phones coming soon? Will the C550 be contract only? The c500 is pretty cheap now but I don't want to get a phone that won't be supported anymore? OFF-TOPIC: This is my fourth post here and that ad banner is really starting to annoy me. It keeps switching the focus away from the text box so typing isn't registered and backspace actually goes back. Is there anyway to disable it?
Guest Confucious Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 There is always something better due out "soon". The C550 will be out in a couple of months but is likely to have WM2003SE but I would be suprised if an update to WM5 doesn't come out for it but it's unlikely to happen for the C500. But the C500 is available NOW and is a great phone. Are the minor improvements in th 550 worth waiting for? It will probably be more expensive when it first comes out (but the price is likely to fall rapidly). The choice is yours.
Guest spacerace Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 I'd wait for the C550. I agree there's always something better "coming" but the C500 has been out for a while now, might aswell hang on a little (hopefully) longer.

Also, soon GPS will be integrated in phones along with 3G, wifi, and bluetooth likely.. Personally, I bought the C500 back in October, but now I will consider somethin like the HTC Universal with integrated GPS, I'm waiting for GPS!

I could see all apps benifiting from some extra space. The universal is a long time away (all phones are delayed all the time) I would estimate october for a UK release.
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 To turn off the banner advert, you could buy a Modaco plus membership, or you could download firefox from http://www.mozilla.org, then get the adblock extension- that disables almost all advertising if you get a good filter set...
Guest simontan1 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) Also depends on what kind of a phone you've got now. If you haven't got WM2003, then I would go for a C500, as they are really cheap (especially on prepay). On the other hand, if the technological jump to a C500 is not a big one for you, then hold out for the new generation of smartphones with better screen resolutions and minimum 1.3mp cameras. That's my tuppence worth. Oh yeah, if you go the prepay route for the C500, you won't have to pay that greedy Florin chap £20 to sim unlock, as a free unlocker was released yesterday. I was one of those who departed with his £20 recently  Is worth buying a c500 now that there are other phones coming soon? Will the C550 be contract only? Guest spacerace Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 those specs sound a little "here's everything you've been waiting for" to me. I can't see a manufacturer releasing all those just in the immediate future. not that I'd complain if they did of course... that'd be a fantastic package.
