My-s7 wifi?

Just been looking at other smartphone news and saw an article about the mitac mio 8870 (sagem my-s7). Apparently it has a full SDIO-compatible sd slot and can accept wifi cards. Can anyone verify this?

There were some beta drivers by some company (sync something) that worked with both my-s7 and e200. Apparently sandisk and socket wifi cards were supported. They just never released them. Found on msmobiles and some chinese site.

SOCKET have got Sagem drivers on their site now. I posted about it HERE and also someone on the SPV-developpers has installed them on his E200, but as he hasn't got a WiFi SD Card he doesn't know if it really works, he just knows that the drivers installed and he has a new connection option.

oooo now this is getting more intesting. although I can't imaging going back to my E200 now !

I have the sandisk 256mb/wifi combo SD card. aren't the socket drivers supposed to be compatible with sandisk ?

From what I'd heard they're both the exact same card, made by SYCHIP who interestingly have an E200 on their site.

Do you actually have one that you could try?

yes that's what I recall aswell. yes have the sandisk 256mb/wifi combo sd card and an E200 in a drawer somewhere. I went to the sagem site but couldn't see the driver downloads.

Hi the drivers are on Socket's site and can be found HERE third row from the top.

I so hope this works, although if it does don't tell anyone till after I've got another E200 from e-bay. The price is bound to go back up if everyone realises they can have WiFi. ;)

hmmm ok I downloaded this file "SDIO_WLAN_Sagem.exe" but my E200 reported

"Installation Failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have adequate system permissions."

Is this an Application Locked issue ?

ahh well I recently got my C500 application unlocked and still have the email address. I will email the IMEI number for my E200 and hopefully get that done aswell.

unfortunately I guess it will be sometime tomorrow at the earliest before they write back with the unlock file.

Just to double check I installed the drivers on my C500 (which IS application unlocked). All installed ok and I now have a "Socket WLAN Tools" on my Start Menu. Of course that's as far as I can go, but it does look promising.

There is menu option to set-up "WLAN Profiles" with settings for SSID and WEP etc.

Will now wait for an application unlock file for my E200...

Now you just need to work out how to install an SD WiFi card in a C500 ;) HAHA. Maybe a bit of ribbon cable and a dummy MiniSD card? do they make such things?

I've just been looking at the e200 forum, more specifically the e200 bug list. There is no way that I would consider using that phone (they are going cheap on ebay but its just not worth it). Now looking for a cheap sagem my-s7.

I think you'll find that a tough searchn they seem to be rare and expensive.

ok so the unlock code arrived, I unlocked the E200 sucessfully.

I then installed the sagem wifi drivers onto the e200. they installed ok however when trying to start the software it errors with

Unable to start WiFi SDK."

It then proceeds to the software program entitled "WLAN Tools SE". There is a menu option to create a new Profile which asks you to fill in SSID, WEP etc. I did this but when pressing "ok" I get the error:

"Unable to create profile. If this failure persists you may need to re-install the software."

When inserting the sd wifi card the phone lights up as it does when an sd card goes in, however nothing else happens. no activity lights on the card light up.

So in summary it doesn't look like it is going to work, at least on the E200. I get the same startup error on the C500 where I tested installing the software last night. I can only assume something Sagem specific is missing ?

just had a look on ebay for a mys-7, one for sale Buy It Now £237.90

isn't it a sagem clone that halfords are selling offline with sat nav kit for just under £400 ?

Definately.

Also maybe it doesn't work with the combined memory and wifi card.

That was a let down, although neither device was actually suppose to work anyway (sagem + socket would work).

Don't really like buying off ebay. I think the sat nav kit is a little OTT ;)

£237.90 is a bit too much just for the abilty to use wifi (although it does have a great 8-way joystick theres no bluetooth).
