Guest Fizz Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Hi I'm using a Qtek 8080 mobile and I'm unable to change the homescreen. When I try to send my homescreens to my device I get the error 'The Connected device is not running Pocket PC 2002. Unable to download the skin' Can anyone help me? TIA
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Where are you getting these skins from ? Are they actually Pocket PC themes ? They won't be compatible with any Smartphones. To clarify, how are you trying to install them ?
Guest Fizz Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) Where are you getting these skins from ? Are they actually Pocket PC themes ? They won't be compatible with any Smartphones. To clarify, how are you trying to install them ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The file's I am trying to install are .hme files I have made with either the demo version of ThemeMaker SP, Windows Theme Generator Smartphone or files downloaded from the smartphone downloads on this site. Files made with the ThemeMaker program have the theme transfer option... it detects the device and I am able to put them on the device but only the profiles, temp and windows directories are displayed (which I put down to it being the demo version of the program) :?: The error message 'The Connected device is not running Pocket PC 2002. Unable to download the skin' is what I get when trying to send them to my device from the Windows Theme Generator Smartphone program or when I right click the .hme files and select ' Send theme to device' I have tried manually placing the files in the directory \Storage\Application Data\Home but when navigating to the home screen directory on my device they don't appear to be an option, this has also been the case with the homescreen files downloaded from this site. Am I putting them in the wrong directory? My device has the latest Qtec 8080 firmware v1.9.14.1. Thanks Edited May 28, 2005 by Fizz

Guest SinisterJunkie Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I know that the Windows Smartphone Theme Generator will only transfer files to a WM2002 device. The theme should still work just transfer them with ActiveSync.
Guest Fizz Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Thanks for all the info. I've had a good play around with the Homescreen Designer program and its not bad at all. There are a few things I don't like about it.... it doesn't seem to transfer colour schemes too well. I have also managed to use the .hme files created for WM2002 devices... (right click file>extract HME) this extracts the individual files into a folder and can then be manually placed in the directory. Not only that I discovered that I could send the .hme files to my device with the 'install homescreen on device' option when right clicked but I think this option only became available since installing the Homescreen Designer. I could be wrong I may have just overlooked this. Once again... thanks ;) Oh... one more thing.... can anyone recommend a good ringtone creator? :?:
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 For much cheapness, use dBpowerAMP (easily found with a quick Google) to rip your CD tracks and convert to wav. Then use Windows Sound Recorder (Programs, Acccessories, Entertainment) to trim out the bit you want and save as PCM format. More info on the subject here : http://smartphone.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=90760 ;)
Guest Fizz Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Thanks Disco Stu ;) ..erm... are you any relation to Disco Dan from the old ZX Spectrum game? :cheesy: Ooops now I'm showing my age
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 No mate. My disco days predate home computers ;) :D
