Ok, I have read and googled now for about 30 plus hours looking for wi-fi drivers for any smartphone. I continue seeing posts and pages claiming they are coming, however, I have yet to find any. I am also aware that there are numerious posts on this site but most of them are at least 6 months old. If anyone has any new information on please post here.

You've probably found the German report on the Beta-Tested drivers? I'm beginning to wonder if that wasn'ta spoof though, as I've been in regular e-mail contact with every SD Card manufacturer and none of them say they have plans to release WiFi Smartphone drivers, and believe me I've hounded them till I've had managerial staff replying, not just some customer support guy.

One of them, I can't remember which maker, pointed out that as Smartphones seem to be moving to Mini-SD cards under the battery, they'll soon be no call for SD Wifi Cards for phones.

Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if there's something going on here between phone operators and phone manufacturers to stop us getting WiFi, and then using it for VoIP, after all it would heavily cut their profits.

(Apologies to customer support guys BTW)

I have always wondered though, how hard would it be to port the PPC drivers?

People make things there is a demand for, like you say phones now tend to have MiniSD cards because they are smaller and use less energy.

Your conspiracy theory seems to be blown out of the water by the fact that WM5 has built in WiFi drivers so we should start seeing devices with built in WiFi - but you'll still be asking why you can't use it ion your e200....

Ah but will we see smartphones with WiFi? or will they still be PocketPC style? I thought one of the ideas with WM5.0 was a convergence between OSes for PPC and SP?

And why are PPCs so much more expensive than SPs?

Touch screens, more memory and faster processors for a start!

And I've just read something about Microsoft pulling the WiFi support out of WindowsMobile 5. Something to do with security issues.

Security of profit for Orange et al, maybe.
