I have a SPV C500 and have used ActiveSync for ages and recently got hold of the new Activesync 4.0 (not availbale for download off Microsoft) which worked fine for weeks and weeks without problems. When I plugges my smartphone into my computer yesterday i expected my email stuff to sync but after reinstalling Office 2003, all I am presented with is the 'Connecting' screen and the rotating tray icon. This does not change because my phone was left plugged into my computer all day yesterday and it did not change. If I go to the ActiveSync program on the phone it just says not connected. It is the computer because the phone syncs fine with all of my other pc's. I have tried downgrading to ActiveSync 3.8 but it has no effect. Can anyone suggest anything that may work? I am going to go uninstall ActiveSync and then reinstall Office followed by ActiveSync again. Ill post if it works.

Edit: I did a full uninstall of ActiveSync and Office (deleting folders, reg keys, etc) and reinstalled it all again and I am still experiencing the same problems. Has anyone else had this problem?

AS 4.0 is available as a public Beta from MS.

I have experienced this (with either 3.7 or 3.8) and can't remember what the solution was!

Have you tried deleting your partnership and setting up a new one?

If that doesn't work I'll try and remember how the heck I sorted it ;)

Good luck

Yea I have tried that but I think the problem may lie in Outlook 2003 because I can no longer recieve my mail anymore, it sends and receives but no mail arrives :?:. This may be the problem. I have multiple profiles in Outlook for my various accounts so I will try and sync with one of my others and post back if it works.

If you set ActiveSync to not sync any data when it connects up (by unchecking the options for data sync with calendar, contacts, mail and notes) does it connect then, even if it only lets you file transfer too and from the phone? At least this would tell you if it's outlook thats at fault.

This is one of the first things I tried after I started having the problem. Now however, after deleting my partnership, i cannot uncheck anything and ActiveSync does not even try and create a partnership, it just shows the 'Connecting' message.

thats the first thing i tried and i deleted all registry entries for it too and i still get the problem. do you think the problem is outlook or activesync? i think its activesync (ill call it for the sake of typin it ;) AS) because i cant even create a partnership and usually when AS cant sync with outlook then i get errors instead of the current problem.

ill go try what u suggested tho

I've had that. I did everything you tried then hard-reset the phone. it worked, but at the cost of lost data that I couldn't sync.

I had this happen as well. Rather than hard-resetting, you can clear out the activesync configs from both the phone and the PC and start over again - I wrote a small app to do just this to the phone: http://www.mossywell.com/downloads/#CleanActiveSync

Basically, it resets a whole load of activesync settings on the phone to how it was after a hard reset. I've not yet had it do anything disasterous to the phone. Yet. :o

You'll need also to clear out the activesync config from the PC. In the registry, clear out HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners. In the file system, clear out

%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles.

Reboot everything and try setting up the partnerships and syncing again.
