Guest Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I had my phone swapped out on Saturday (another rant about Orange later ;)) and put TTM5 on it. Because it had already been activated it pointed me at the ttmcode.com site. This wouldn't give me an activation code so I emailed Tom Tom with the product code and device code TTM5 shows on the phone as it says on the site. They replied quoting the licence agreement that says the software is only licensed on one device and is non-transferable! I pointed out it was a new phone due to a warranty swap so they asked me to fax everything I have to Tom Tom (international fax number) including the codes I'd already supplied, original invoice from when I bought the phone from Orange and paperwork relating to the getting the phone replaced (which as anyone who's had a warranty swap will know, you don't get any). They also want the invoice from when I bought TTM5 - which was from them through their website! Tom Tom are now saying they can't help but if I scan "documents" (which ones?!) to them they may look at my case again. So in a nutshell you can't ever upgrade your phone if you have a Tom Tom product on it. If your phone is replaced for any reason your activation codes are null and void. Tom Tom don't case and just keep asking for the same information again and again albeit in more and more inconvenient methods. Beware Tom Tom's poor customer service!
Guest James Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 WOW, that sounds bad. they have not considered a few important points there. Good luck sorting it out.
Guest peekie Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 guess he wont be buying any tomtom shares :| tomtom should realise that the spv is updated , not alot but you loose all the data when you upgrade your rom , not a wise move on tomtoms side  or just being greedy for the share holders
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I had exactly the same problem with IMEI unlock. They were the most unhelpful company I have ever dealt with. Even insinuating to me that I was trying to rip them off by trying to get a free unlock code that costs just a few quid anyway. Trying to explain to them Orange had replaced my faulty phone was like banging your head against a brick wall. I sent them a scanned delivery note and they even said I could have made it myself!
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Not related to licenses but I had the same problem with their customer services department when I was trying to explain problems with searches etc in TomTom Mobile. The reply was "you must be using it wrong" or "you have spelt the road name wrong" and I rang them up to try and improve the product. But after half a dozen calls with the same type of response I.E. tough if you don’t like it go somewhere else I did just that  I would never recommend TomTom to anyone again
Guest Confucious Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 (edited) I had exactly the same problem with IMEI unlock. IMEI-check make it perfectly clear on there site that you are only unlocking that one phone and you will have to pay again if you habve a phone with another IMEI number, TOM-TOM don't. I emailed Co-Pilot today as I lost my phone and will (hopefully) be getting a new one through insurance. They emailed me back just as I was leaving work asking for my phone number so they can call me to discuss it. I'll let you know how I get on! Edited May 31, 2005 by Confucious
Guest incey2000 Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Hi i have a problem. I have just recived my tomtom mobile 5 but if i activate it when the C500 UK rom update is released can i update my phones rom and still use my tom tom moble 5..????
Guest asphire23 Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I'm taking a rough guess here, but it's because there is a keygen out there that generate a valid license key and people are using it on ttcodes.com. I saw one TT5 cracked released last week, You can find it in the usual place.
Guest mcwarre Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Why do they need a Keygen; they only need one valid license code which they then copy and sell........
Guest p2daz Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 I guess this could be a problem after a hard reset also?
Guest Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 An update. Tom Tom finalloy gave me a new code to activate the maps and all is working now. I haven't posted before because I was trying to work out if it was a translation problem but if they'reselling internationally then that shouldn't happen. It will be interesting to see what happens with ROM/phone upgrades but to be honest I'm not brave enough to test Tom Tom's customer service in that type of situation!
Guest MECX Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 There seems to be a bit of confusion here, The products are linked to the IMEI number of your phone so incey2000 and t5chav you are both fine as this only effects people who get a brand new device (therefore a new IMEI number), updates or hardresets wont effect you installing TOMTOM again. Still for my 2p worth TOMTOM deserved to have there software hacked, you paid for a product you cant use, even microsoft allow you to move windows from computer to computer, i mean as long as that product is only linked to one IMEI number i cant see the issue.
Guest celica1.8st Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Why do they need a Keygen; they only need one valid license code which they then copy and sell........ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From what I can tell each code only works once ;) The activation code isn't a problem - it's actually finding a valid product code which is the difficulty! It also makes the activation code partly from your device code which means it's unique for each phone :D

It also makes the activation code partly from your device code which means it's unique for each phone :D You are correct my bad. When you install TT5 it gives you the option of manual or automatic registration (required to allow product use). Automatic is straight forward but if it is installed on more than 4 devices (info from TT) then it won't work anymore without the purchaser calling tt. Manual installation provides 2 groups of 4 alphanumeric digits. This is where the keygen comes in. All the 'cracked' versions require manual registration and then a keygen is used. All alegedly of course...............

Beware Tom Tom's poor customer service! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had a similar problem to you in that I work for a Mobility Solution team and often swap between an Mpx220, C500 and SP3i. I activated the software on the 220 and then swapped over to the C500 and it told me that the map had already been activated, pointing me to ttcode.com, of course it failed so I phoned 08451610009 and explained the situation and the very nice bloke on the other end of the phone confirmed I was the legitimate owner and gave me a new activation code over the phone. It seems that if you legally purchase the product you can activate it on new devices, but they will querey if this is done to often and will require a reason for the change in device. HTH ;)
