No ROM update for UK C500 users-Official

I have finally had definite word on ROM 4.2.2.1 becoming available in the UK.

Below is a transcript of an e-mail conversation I have had with Orange UK over the last few weeks.

Start at the bottom and work upwards.

Dear Martin

Thank you for your mail

I would like to advise that at the present time there are no further software updates available for your phone.

I can advise that if you download the French version this will not invalidate the handsets warranty, I am unable to confirm that the French version will work on a UK handset

If you require any further information please call our Wirefree department on 156 from your Orange or phone or 07973 100 156 from a landline.

So there you have it.

No new ROM for the UK, but installing the French version won't invalidate the warranty.

(As proof of stupid, my sim gets blocked, cant enter puk code, problem sent to technical. 5 days later my dads friend who used to work for orange cantacts existing friend at orange, Amazingly the person sitting next to her knows everything about the C500, 10 minutes later i get a sim update, problem solved. 2 more days pass, technical finaly get back to me and say that id need a new sim. I tell them where to stick it, and complain to them about how long it took and how they arent doing their jobs, blah blah blah. The End)

I am aware of rumors on internet forums. They are untrue. The revised ROM has

not yet been released in the UK so even brand new phones have not been

updated.

The release of the ROM update will be done once Orange, Microsoft and HTC are

By the wording of that e-mail, it seems that they are already working on the ROM for giving us the revised version.

All the email mentions is that at present there are no updates available. It doesn't say there never will be, or there aren't any plans to, so I'm not sure the title of "No ROM update for UK C500 users-Official" is justified. Unless of course you just meant, at the present time. ;)

To be totally honest, Im not going to believe anything Orange CS say because, well, they know f**k all. They really are useless lol.

The e-mail I recieved confirmed that they were working on the new ROM for Orange UK. Although there is no current release date, the e-mail I was sent did indeed say that they were currently working on it in collaboration with Microsoft and HTC.

i bet that they saying, why should we bother to update ROM on c500 when we can sell a new device with wm2005. there is no money on updating ROm, instead selling new device with new OS(WM2005/magneto).

i'm with them on my two contract numnbers, but 'im fed up. that's why i'm leaving orange. they are full of crap. the 12 months contract of my 2 phones is ending soon, i will cancel it and get a new number from any network beside orange.

i'd rather go back to payg, than be back with them on contract. upgrading is full of crap, customer service is not htat helpful, i'm paying gprs data even i'm not using it. :evil: :evil: :evil:

The good thing about WMP10 is now you can Fast Forward and it now displays album art.

Unless your bothered about Satnav then the only change you'll notice is WMP10 and I certainly didn't go Wooppppeee when I seen it

Well it's certainly not in the one currently leaked to the net.

I sincerely hope this was deliberate in order to gauge feedback, and that Orange are taking note and are indeed "fixing" the TomTom issue.
