Guest scsi Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I have for a long time had a PocketPC, and since I like the platform, and would realy like to combine it with my phone, hence, I am interested in a MS Smartphone, namely, the Qtek 8020. Thats actually the only MS Smartphone that (to me) looks acceptable, and is of an acceptable size. Well, there is also the Qtek 8010. I have read alot of horror stories about problems with the 8020, becouse of it's poor build quality. Joysticks falling of, buttons don't working, paint peeling of, e.t.c... All this made me worried, since I find it unacceptable to to be forced to send the phone in for repairs after a few months of normal use, which seems to be something that most 8020 owners have had to put up with. Has anyone actually had this phone for a few months, without having any problems related to poor quality? Although, I haven't gotten the impression that all this applies to the 8010 model. It seems spared from lousy assembly. I find the 8020 to be alot more attractive, but since the two are of the exact same size, with the exact same hardware, (or am I misstaken?) I could accept the lesser looks and go for the 8010, if that means getting away the problems. Could you please give me some feedback on this? Are the 8010 and 8020 alike "under the hood"? 8020 is supposed to be the successor of the 8010, but what has changed, eccept the looks? And have you people gotten the same negative impression about the quality of the 8020? I've been wanting to get a smartphone for a long, long time, but I don't want to sacrifice quality to get one with Microsofts OS. I would hate to be forced to switch to Nokia and Symbian, but it somehow feels that don't have I choice - if my assumptions are right. I simply cannot stand to worry if the joystick is going to fall off every time I pick the phone up. I would like to proven wrong, and told that I just exaggerate, but I have read in all kinds of forums from people all having the same issues, and just don't know. Have emailed Qtek about it several times, but my emails are just being ignored, and I don't have to tell you how "reassuring" this is. ;) Best regards /Daniel
Guest Confucious Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Where are you? They are both HTC Typhoons (one with joystick the other with roller bar) and are sold as different names in different markets. Tha cases are slightly different in different markets and the qtek ones do seem to have more complaints than others. Apart from potential build quality problems they are great phones - check out the Typhoon section. HTH
Guest scsi Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 I live in Sweden, so Qtek is my only choice, due to waranty issues. But I can't believe that Qtek has more problems with their pgones than other HTC-"branders", since it is the exact same hardware.

It works very well and I have no major problems to report so far (other than that I hate the audio quality on the standard headset.) I have no experience with the 8020 but we all know about the joystick problems which have been reported. I have not experienced any such thing with the 8010. I would definitely recommend the 8010. Good luck with it, whichever way you go.
Guest Parre Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I have had my Qtek 8010 for 8 months and i live in Sweden. I dont have any experience with the 8020 either, but there are some things i can tell you about the Qtek 8010 or C500 or waddever you want to call it :D - Pros - * Great to sync with Outlook, and the new update is even better since much easier to config the bluetooth now. If you like things organized and use Outlook a lot like i do you will luv the sync. * I luv the speakerphone it works really great and you can use it for conferance too. * The whole GUI is nice too, im use to Windows so it was a familiar sight. Start button and creating folders and everything. * Mp3 ringtones in the new update is great. I can use it with the stereo headset and use it as a MP3 player. * When the phone is ringing you will hear it since its much louder than the previous phones i have had. Theres 2 different speakers one for the actual phone call and one for the ringing. * All the different programs you can use with the phone, there are 1000:ns. I keep installing loads and loads hehehe. Favorites are Fizztraveller and the Resco Explorer. Mini Golf is great too. * Size of the phone, fits nice in your hand or your pockets and it looks great. * Battery time is great, one of the best for smartphones. * The joystick, either you luv it or u hate it, i just luv it ;) * Screen is bright and clear easy to see everything. Good quality. * Its fast and easy to call someone with speedmacros or from the contact list. * Its amazing how fast the phone charges from empty to a full battery. - Cons - * Only a VGA camera, takes good pictures during daytime outside, but inside it sucks. But then again what can you expect from a VGA camera. * The paint on the joystick is a disaster, little silver pieces rubs of if your a frequent user. But this problem is only with the joystick, not with the rest of the silver colour on the phone, keys ect. * Since its a windows smartphone it takes ages to power up and close down. But who turn their phones off today anyway :D * I have had some issues with my bluetooth headset. I use to answer the phone with the HS and dident hear ppl on the other end sometimes. When i called someone the HS didn't respond with a dial tone even though i called ppl up and they could hear me and not the other way around. But the new update really helped me a lot since there is a new BT stack now and problems seems to be gone now. * Explorer isnt very good, but i cured that with installing Opera instead *smiles* * Earlier when BT was enabled the phone went down in slowmontion mode. But again the new update helped a lot. * Theres a little space between the phone and the screen on all sides, so after a while you wil get some small dust particles inside the plastic screen, which is kinda enoying. But a lot of ppl used some plastic tejp covering the whole screen to prevent dust from getting in and then that problems was out of the world. But i missed that from the beginning*hehe* I would rate this phone 85% out of 100%. Im very happy with the phone and the little problems i have had with the phone is nothing compare to the fun i have with it. I even watched a full movie with subtitles when i was bored on the plane ;) Buy the 8010, you wont be sorry if you can live with the minor cons. Hope this helps!!! This is all my experience with the phone, maybe other ppl have a different view. This was all i could think of.
