Guest chucky.egg Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 I like the idea of self-extracting backup files. PPC devices can do that already, and in theory it makes it a little bit easier to recover from a Hard Resset

Hard to understand the text on that page... .exe backups are a very good idea. I always use it on my PPC. Anyone tried this app out yet? Sprite is OK, but it has a few bugs they won't be bothered to fix - Handango returned my money for that exact reason (hangs when restoring registry on a system with Chronos/CityTime Alarms installed). I don't have an MS Smartphone myself anymore, but I know a few ppl that could use a reliable backup prg...
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 I only tried doing backups with this. Took ~10mins to backup entire phone contents (reg files, contacts, programs) and ~2mins for stuffs other than program files. I havent tried a 'Restore' session though.

Guest Pagemakers Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 What does the backup manager on the pc DO? What does sync do?
Guest efjay Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 I just bought this software for my XDA IIs after installing the demo, it is quite a good app; backups and restores are fast and seem to backup ok and restore ok. Few problems i found the actual time on the backup file is 4 hours in the future so it will help to add a note when making a backup till it is fixed. My big issue is after buying the app i still havent received my reg code and none of my emails have been answered. So thats one thing to watch out for. But for the price if my issues are resolved it is worth it. Pagemakers, the backup manager on the pc allows you to restore backups, delete unwanted backups. The sync feature appears to give you the option to set a sync frequency time period but havent tried it yet. There is no inbuilt help for the pc app

Guest Pagemakers Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 How do you create self-executing exe files?

But now after synching it has registered ok. To create self-extracting exes there should be an option to check when setting up a backup job.

Guest efjay Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Nope. No option to create exe files. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What options do you have when creating a backup? i have 5; compress backup, create self-extracting backup file, restart device after backup, stop all processes before backup, ignore files in use. Maybe the exe creation is a ppc option only.
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 ignore files in use ;) Doesn't say that on their website and they haven't replied to my email questions. Time to un-install and stick with Sprite.

Time to un-install and stick with Sprite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On the english version of their site it does say you can create self extracting files http://www.sunnysoft.cz/en_clanek.php?clanekid=149 but the version there says 1.0. Maybe the latest update hasnt reached all distributors. I do agree its pretty poor they dont answer emails; doesnt bode well for future support
Guest rperalta Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 When I backup (phone or storage card) it would freeze at Writing Registry. I had to reboot all the time. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert
Guest roma0803 Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 It doesn't kill running apps therefore it might end up having trouble backing up the registry. So far I've tried 5 times, every time it hangs at Writing Registry. I only can get use of my phone after taking out the battery. I believe this software should be labeled 'beta'. Time to uninstall. Backing up a Smartphone seems to be a challenge. So far only Sprite does it, but still with issues.

Definitely set BM to kill apps running on the backround + make sure the phone is unlocked and the application can access the registry.
