Just a couple questions regarding Bluetooth...

As I am new to this technology, I don't quite know what to expect and unfortunately there does not appear to be much discussion or information on the manufacture website.

I have experienced a few problems.

1) I can hear others just fine, but they often complain of either not being able to hear me, or of missing words in the conversation. This almost appears to be either related to how far away the mic on the phone is from me (Is it still active during a bluetooth conversation?) or how far the phone is from the Bluetooth receiver (2-3 feet max).... the closer it gets, the quality may go up?

2) After the initial pairing, I have to manually connect the phone with the bluetooth device everytime I want to make a call. This is done by going to the device in the phone and just setting the device as a "Hands Free device", then it will connect and allow me to make calls. If I don't do this, then I am unable to make calls, but can receive them (It automatically connects to my device when the phone rings).

3) There appears to be a delay when I make or receive calls via bluetooth. When the call connects, the other side is sometimes unable to hear me for anywhere from 10-20 seconds, even though I can hear them just fine....

Is this sort of stuff "normal", or am I doing something wrong? Any comments are greatly appreciated.

1. This could be a lot of factors. The type of headset you own, Bluetooth class, phone model etc.

I have tried the Sony HBH-300 and Motorola HS850. The HBH-300 has a boom mic with noise cancellation feature. This greatly improves the outgoing quality. The HS850 has a short boom with no noise cancellation feature. Generally, the longer the boom mic, the better outgoing quality the headset will produce.

2. Don't know what you are talking about here. Just as long as your bluetooth headset is on and in range of the phone, the headset will be automatically activated once a call has begun.

Also, there is a known bug with the MPX-220's bluetooth. When you first use the bluetooth headset to MAKE a call. The microphone doesn't pick up the outgoing sound. Easiest remdy, call you voicemail first.

3. Again it depends on the bluetooth headset you are using. My HBH-300 connects to the call fairly quickly. However, the HS850 takes a little longer.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

What type of bluetooth headset are you using?

Thank you much for the reply!

With the mpx220 known bug of first using the headset to make a call... is this just initially after pairing, or the first time, each time it gets connected to the device?

The bluetooth headset in question is the ihf1000 carkit. Infact, just received the HS810 last Saturday from Motorola (What a surprise!) and it seems to work flawlessly so far. (Can't seem to make calls with it because voicedial is not supported and whenever dialing from phone, then closing the flip, it hangs-up.--Still looking for a workaround on how to make calls from device...)

The IHF1000 problem is odd since I find that if the carkit and phone are on, and a call rings through, the carkit will automatically connect with the phone and receive the call just fine. (Odd thing is that when answering phone, I get an immediate prompt that the call has ended, when infact, it was just answered.... and can then continue talking with only occasional sound quality problems -- them being unable to hear me due to low volume and quality issues.) Sometimes when making or receiving a call, there appears to be a delay of 5-10 seconds where they are unable to hear me at all. Ususally after saying "hello" a few times, I can get a response.

If I want to initially make a call using the carkit, then I have to manually connect the devices by going Start>Settings>Bluetooth>menu>devices> select device, then Menu>Set as Hands-free> then press hangup button. There is usually an immediate prompt from the carkit that "Phone 1 is now Connected" and can then make calls. Sort of a pain, but at least it somewhat works.. if not as advertised...

So far, I haven't seen any posts from non-Smartphone users with this problem out there, but the product is new enough that it may not have manifested itself yet.

Re: MPX-220 bluetooth headset bug ---> You will have to do this each time you re-connect the headset to the phone. However, if you receive a call, it isn't a problem.

Re: HS810 --> Once the call has connected you should be able to close the phone without disconnecting the call. Only time I noticed the call disconnects is when the phone is still dialing the number. And this phone does take a while to dial.

If this is not your case, make sure your HS810 is setup as a handsfree device.

Don't have any experience with car-kits. Sorry
