SPV C500 - "Denied, Searching" - can't get signal

hi,

I'm new to Modaco.

I recently bought an unlocked SPV C500.

It accepts my O2 simcard, and loads normally. Everything works on the phone apart from making and recieving calls.

In the top right hand corner, instead of saying "O2" for example. It says "Denied, Searching".

I really don't know what's wrong.

The Simcard works on my old phone (nokia) and I can get signal with that.

Please, help the newbie!

Thanks

are you sure it's sim unlocked, and not just application unlocked?

The person I bought it from says it is unlocked. I haven't got an orange sim card to test it with at the moment, but I could get one.

The odd thing is that it loads correctly, I thought it would have said please insert a valid simcard or something...

Sounds like its NOT Network Unlocked (or reported stolen), The best thing you can do is try to Sim Unlock it 'again' ITS FREE....

I though it will ask for a 'code' if you insert another network sim and its not unlocked.... do you get this message?

See here fro free unlock methord:- http://www.modaco.com/C500_SimLock_Togglin...00-t207545.html

Edit: P.S. Another thing i thought of, it may be unlocked but if it has been reported stolen the phone will be blocked. in this case you need to start asking for a refund.

It doesn't ask for any codes.

I don't thinkit was stolen, because it came boxed and with everything, but I suppose that doesn't prove much.

I have tried the free unlocking thing. The home screen says rapinit was succesful, but I get this error, when I click on the sim-unlock tool:

did you install the supplied .cab file on the phone?

Could you tell me how to do this? I don't know where to put it, and my phone's file manager doesn't even show it...

Right:-

1.First the phone must be APP unlocked here:- (Use a activeSync Pass through connection to do this)

Settings/Data Connections/ internet Connection = Automatic

http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdefq.aspx

2. Using ActiveSync just put the cab file on the phone e.g. 'Storage/My_Documents'

3. Using the file explorer... go to that location and run the cab file (use List View)

4. now try to unlock.

good luck!

If the phone will boot ok with the non Orange sim in it then it will be SIM unlocked. The best thing to do is to phone Orange and check that the handset has not been blocked.

This is really annoying...

Firstly, It won't let me application unlock the phone, because I can't get a signal.

So installing the cab file is out of the question.

Although, I did mangage to install Doom earlier this morning.

I will ring orange soon, and see what is going on.

Unfortunately some people do insurance fraud and sell their phones while claiming that they have either had it lost or stolen.

The other thing that happens is that the phone is sold but the previous owner has not paid the bills.

All this leads to the phone being blocked by the networks and only the original owner can get it unblocked again.

Another thing to check is that in Settings\Phone\Networks the Network selection option is set to Automatic
