i'm using the motorola mobile upgrade wizard v1.8.5 and i can't seem to get the update to install. i get to the part where it tells me to plug in the usb to the phone with the battery out and the message on the updater says it's plug in usb. i plug it in and the "detecting mobile communications" message shows up but thats where it stops. then i get a effort message saying it failed and to remove the usb-ce bus.

any ideas?

have you installed the Motorola Smartphone Modem driver? if so, try another USB port. only 1 of the 3 USB ports on my laptop will detect the phone and allow me to proceed with the update.
