Guest Leaskovski Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 (edited) Hi all, This may be a strange question but here goes... Is there software out there that can pull information about the current signal being received? Does the signal that is picked up from the phone give any information such as location etc? Probably not. Edited June 21, 2011 by Leaskovski

Anway cheers for what you have pointed out to me, Thanks.
Guest homestaruk Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Basically, the information is stored in the phone knowing the "ID" of the cell (or radio transmitter location) you are currently connected to. By using your GPRS Internet connection, the smartphone is able to use the celltrack online database to query the name of the cell ID you are connected to. This then returns an approximate location, for example, if you were in the vicinity of the Bullring in Birmingham, you may be using a transmitter located on the roof of the buliding, and the application would return that you were at the Bullring. I hope this makes sense. Dean
