how to install a homescreen?

Hi guys

i am new to all this and i have seen many people make xml files and provide images in their own home folders. But how do i install any of these on my smart phone? I also want to start making some creative modifications, but want to get some basic homescreen set up on my phone.

Apparently very easy but.... . WHAT IS a .XML file ? I got a theme , it contains some unknown files and a setup.xml file . So ? What can I do whit it ?

Why is it so difficult to find this information on this forum. yes, I did search. :?:

Of course, reading through a 5 page faq to find out that you have to copy the HME/CAB to your phone is useful also. :roll:
