Guest bmeek Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Hello folks, Does such software exist for Smartphones? My old Sanyo SCP-6000 had a useful "call screening" feature. With any incoming call, one could opt to screen it, at which point the caller would hear a pre-recorded greeting prompting them to leave a message... Their message could be heard in real time as it was being digitally recorded within the phone's memory. One could opt to actually pick up the call at any time while the message was being left (at which time the message would cease to be recorded). I never really used the feature due to the phone's limited capacity for storing a lengthy message, and because I typically just answer incoming calls and cut them short if need be... Now that I've got a Windows Smartphone with 512MB of mini SD storage, the idea of being able to use such a feature when unidentified calls come in is appealing. One could even have fun with such a feature - recording a "special greeting" for a particular caller :-). I saw the recent post regarding a plea for Smartphone 2003SE software that could record voice calls, and the assertion that the available APIs are inadequate for the job. As this is a slightly different challenge, I'm wondering if such software exists - search this site turned up nothing obvious. Any thoughts? Thanks, -- brian

Guest Tomvdz Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 It can't be done I think, because it is not possible to record both sides of a conversation, and this app will require to record the side of the caller, and that's not possible
Guest stern Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 Nice idea though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is possible to record both sides of the conversation http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=207909&hl=record I'm not suggesting you should use the video record function to do what you're trying to do, but highlighting that it is possible to record the caller therefore it's possible to develop an application to screen/record calls

Hopefully there will be added value to the existing APIs and new ones so we can do a lot more. It would be kool to have a program that can change your voice or somethin lol - I think that can be done by modifying the mic, that would be neat to play a joke or two!
Guest Maquina Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 This should be possible. My old Sony T637 had a voice recorder on it and it recorded both sides of the conversation. If Sony Eriksson can do it than someone should be able to do it for a smartphone.
