i have a smt5600 using att wireless, and cingular is telling me i can break my contract with the att service at no charge and move to cingular service and save some money on the internet package but i have to purchase a new 5600 from them for $250 because they cannot update my phone to work on the cingular service? anyone heard of this, all i can think is a firmware update and maybe settings. my phone is not even a year old and i dont want to buy another one

if someone might know how to update it.

thanks

No update is required for your phone, they want you to purchase new equipment, you only need to buy a 64k simcard and you can tell them whatever you want as far as where or how you purchased the phone, they will activate that sim and slap you with a 2yr contract, or just signup and get a free phone and put that sim card into your 5600 if its been unlocked, if not that will cost you an extra $45 or so but its in what is the lesser of the 2 evils. There is always the option to flash your att rom with a cingular rom of the 5600, but just giving you options to hang on to your phone. We don't provide roms or links here, only ideas

I went through this process yesterday and today. I purchased an AT&T SMT5600 at the end of December and didn't want to give it up. The lady at a Cingular store in town offered to call a couple guys in town who unlock Nokia phones - unfortunately they couldn't help me out.

Since I wanted to get an additional line for my wife, she switched me from AT&T to Cingular with no early out fees. I did have to go home and pay around $40 to get my phone unlocked. Pretty easy process.

Once that happened, I went back and got the SIM card swapped out. Once she activated it, the phone worked, but the Internet settings and stuff needed to be fixed still. I found some great advice on these forums.

http://www.modaco.com/SMT_5600_on_Cingular...To-t206009.html has a lot of great info to download. Took me about 1/2 hour to make all the changes - ok, I was working at the same time, so you should be able to crank the changes out in less time. I tested it and it works great now!

If you're only getting a SIM from Cingular, you only have to sign up for a 1-year contract. 2-year contracts are only required if you're also getting a subsidized phone from them.

I cannot for the life of me find the Cingular smt5600 Rom ANYWHERE. Does anyone have it/know where i can get it. I'm really beating my head against the wall here.

I just got an ATT smt-5600 w/ mMode (off eBay), and it's not letting me access the internet. I contacted cingular about it and they said it had to be re-crysataled or something like that so it could use Cingular's internet.. I have been reading some of these messages and am wondering if Cingular rom flash is what I am looking for? If so where can I find it? I tried the Pirate Bay Torrent thing and got nothing.

Thank you very much!!!

Well, I am in the same situation as you Whtrose02, but I have a Cingular phone and an AT&T simcard. If you want to trade phones or something, it will work for both you and me. Send me an email and we can exchange numbers and talk it over or something.

I have references on ebay and heatware to boot. LMK
