 Not very happy when I found this site http://mobile.msn.com/ac.aspx?cid=pmsn_market and found out that Microsoft would be charging for Pocket MSN. What a bumer.

Alot of people dont use Msn Messenger on their smartphones, they use like Agile Messenger. However I use the MSN Version and I think its pathetic they are going to start charging to use it in Windows Mobile 5.0

I wonder if they will make us upgrade to Pocket MSN on Smartphone 2003, if we want to keep using the Mobile MSN Messenger program.

you know what i think... this is the result of MS being forced into un-bundling their applications!

You can now buy a version of Windows XP without Media Player and one with... Is this development in WM5 part of the stratagy to avoid any further anti-competiton situations later. As everybody is saying, there are always free apps available that do the same as MS ones. Isnt that because the 'others' need to tempt people away from the mighty Gates empire and THEN start charging once we wont do wiithout...?

thin end of the wedge, methinks...

Actually, I have used an RTM version of WM5 and Messenger works fine without paying.

I can kinda imagine it being chargeable for HoTMaiL access, but to charge for messenger is crazy, especially with apps like Agile Messenger being out there for free...

On the site it says that if you have Pocket MSN you can activate it here :?: I wonder if they will start charging. Or if they wont charge if the phone has it preinstalled * shrugs *

could it be that the anti competitive rulings will do what they were meant to and allow everyone to charge for the apps?

if Agile is free today to compete with a pre-installed app, if that pre-installation for free disappears, then Agile can legitmately charge a premium price over the MS app.

good and bad, i reckon

what does RTM mean?

Release to manufacturing ;)

and yeh as Paul said, MSN is still in WM5 and does not require activation (for the moment anyway). It has been re-vamped with a homescreen plugin and hotmail access (See screeny) :D

Very interesting stuff. There's been the threat of charging for Pocket MSN for ages but it's yet to appear.

Let's hope it doesn't...

whats an RTM version? Please tell me with PM! I would love Pocket MSN for my pocket pc & smartphone.

Also, I think if they start charging, then MS will lose its market share, like it has with Firefox!
