Guest Resendiz Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I get home in a URGING hurry to take a wee wee so i start unbuckling my pants and BOOOOOOOMM!! i dropped my SMT5600. I love that phone so much that i did not think twice, so i reached in that toilet and GRABBED on to it and pulled it out of the water. I its still on and working so i sit down to take a #1 (i know i know im a guy i should stand) but i needed to check on the condition of my phone and take care of urinating. So im pushing buttons to test it, and the thing starts freezing, i hit 8 and it types 5!! Ive only had this phone for 1.5 months! NO way in hell am i gonna let my phone drown without doing everything in my power to fix it. So Immediately after finding out that its buttons are all typing something else, (this is not for the squeemish) so i give the phone CPR i start sucking the water out of its gaps and buttons and spitting it over to the sink next to me (im still sitting down), BUT the damn this is still not working right anymore, NOW its restarting itself without me doing anything, just cycly after cycle, so now im sh**ing in my pants (not litterally) i love this phone, so i open it up take out the SIM card and Memory card and battery and start drying it with the towel next to me. I take a closer look and there is visible water so i (for a second) give up all kings of hope and start thinking of how to break it because i was so mad. BUT! hope is not lost yet, i say "ill give it one last go" if drinking toilet water isnt a sign of desperation then i dont know what is. So i dead towards my moms bathroom and grab the gun.....the blow dryer gun and crank it to HIGH HEAT because now i mean business, and i start blow drying the phone at all possible angles for about a full minute untill the phone gets so hot that i can no longer take the heat. Now the question is...Is the phone working? I put it all together and.........damn the damn thing works. It was a miracle. this happened three days ago and its working perfectly fine. My determination and love for the SMT5600 was too much for that water to handle. So if you ever drop your phone in the water reach your hand down there and save it. Or just buy another one. ;)
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Me personally would have let it dry out next to a radiator. But, glad you got it working again. Were you insured?

Guest Alex_le_brit Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Yup I did the same thing, dropped it in the loo, luckily I had my headphones on at the time so could yank it out quickly. The art is to take the battery off, the SIM card out, and the SD card too, give it a bit of a shake to get the worst of the water out and then let it dry gently in the heat of the sun, or a radiator, or a warm hairdryer. Then again I once lost my phone, couldn't find it anywhere and then remembered that the last time I'd had it was getting a pizza out of the freezer the night before. And just to confirm, the thermometer program does go don below 0°C
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 What the minimum operating temp for the phone?
Guest moosery Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 ew ew ew ew I dropped a phone in a fish tank once. It took 2 months to revive but it did, and worked for a year then i sold it. I then dropped another phone in a fish tank and put it on the car dashboard where the air vent is. It dried out quicker that time. I think generally if you dry them out, they tend to work. Next time maybe you wont have to drink "eau de toilette"
Guest Chaser81 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I once had a bird come into my store who'd dropped her phone down the loo. She didnt tell us this of course at first, she said it had gotten wet, so there's me touching and examining this thing all over to see what state it is in, and then comes the question: Me: "How did you get it wet?" Her: "It was on top of the loo," (My face starts to pale) "and I got a call, and it vibrated off the top of the cistern and into the bowl" I drop the phone, let out a yell like a little girl and have to leave the shop floor to retch!! Nasty!
Guest Projekt8E Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 So im pushing buttons to test it, and the thing starts freezing, i hit 8 and it types 5!! wow, you are lucky you didn't short it out. I would never push buttons if my phone got wet. My roommate got his wet once and the first thing I did was take his battery out and let it dry in mild heat. Of course then he ran it through the washing machine and killed it....and yet again with his next phone. I stopped helping him after that
Guest extravagant Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 no i bought it off ebay without insurace, so im walking on a string <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bought mine off ebay - it broke once (ROM crashed) but the guy gave me the warantee paper thing, so I tried sending it in to Audiovox, and I'm so happy that they fixed it, only bad thing is that when they send me a replacement, the phone was locked so I needed to dishout another 50$ to unlock it. (I hope that free unlock program can come out soon that will support the 5600) Anyways, glad that your phone fixed! I would have done the same thing, with the tiolet etc! I LOVE MY SMT 5600 !!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Resendiz Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 glad to hear that im not the only person with too much love for the phone ;)
Guest Alex_le_brit Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 What the minimum operating temp for the phone? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know, why not install Thermo on your phone, and then freeze it? I'm certainly not doing it with mine again.
