Hi - my phone used to freeze about once a month but now it happens every couple of days. It usually happens when I have an incoming call and won't let me answer it. It just continuously vibrates and I have to take the battery out and switch it on again. It has also been freezing up when I try to do other things. Anyone else have experience of this? I've had it about 4 months. Should I phone Orange and try and get them to replace it?

Thanks

Check your availabe memory with a Task Manager.

Could be lack of phone memory that is causing it to freeze.

How do I check the memory?

I have a 512mb mini sd card which is about half full with music, but not sure about what's on the actual phone memory apart from about 40 odd photos. Will delete them to see if it helps.

In your Accessories folder you should have Task Manager.

Hit Menu (right softkey) and select 6. System Info.

Scroll down to Flash Memory / Storage. Of 27.98MB I have 18.17MB free.

This gets eaten up by installing software to phone memory rather than storage card. Also having a whole load of skins and ringtones on there is bad. Another good idea is to delete your messages after you've read them.

Just checked and there's 21.85 mb free. Phoned Orange and they said it was a software fault and it's getting fixed so they can't send out a replacement. I'll just have to wait for them to release a software update apparently.

Thanks for you help though.

That is outrageous.

You may have gathered from elsewhere on the forum that Orange are not giving any sensible answers to queries as to when the software update is going to be released.

Or indeed if it will ever be released.

They didn't seem bothered at all and just gave me the same generic answer that I guess they give everybody - wait and see.

I'd be looking up the number for my local Trading Standards office at this point.

Orange sold you a phone that won't work as a phone.

Orange did give me a number for SPV (or HTC Europe) and I just called them. They said that I can send the phone in and they will check if it is a manufacturing fault. If it is they will repair it at no charge. Will take it from there and see what they say. Has anyone else done this and what was the outcome?

Going to trading standards sounds scary - anyone gone that route?? (serious question!!)

I've never done either personally but other members have reported happy experiences with HTC. You may even get a new ROM flashed on your phone.

You shouldn't be scared of Trading Standards, they're just like that Ann Robinson's Watchdog off the telly. At least they'll clarify the exact position between you and Orange.

Why dont u try reflashing the ROM if everything doesn't work. Or first try a hardreset. My SMT 5600 freezes usually after I disconnect it from the computer, which I really hate. I've even formatted both cpu and phone, still it happens.
