I'm currently living in australia, and took my c500 with me, i'm still paying my contract out in the uk, including orange care...

My phone has started to play up big time, battery dying in less than 24 hours, clock resetting when I remove battery, power button seemingly getting stuck down the other day so it continually booted and reset... and several other niggles.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas about getting them to send me a replacement? will I have to send the old one to someone back home, get them to wait in for the courier, then send it back to me, leaving my phoneless for 3 weeks or so???

any ideas would be gratefully recieved!

Dan.

well they can't say you can't use it abroad as they market the ability to use them abroad.

Give Orange a ring and explain your situation honestly, they should tell you what to do ;)

Well I called Orange and explained the situation, they agreed that my phone was faulty, and they could send me a new one, woohoo...

I explained that I was abroad, and that I couldn't afford to wait 3 weeks without the phone whilst I sent it to the uk to be picked up by a courier and then sent back to me... no problem... we can send it out by post to a uk address with a jiffy bag, then you can send it back in that, great I said...

So... the guy goes through the system, right to the end and then tells me that he can't send the C500 out by post "because of the nature of the phone" whatever that means... presumably that they cost too much and they don't want them nicked. I'd have to send it to the uk first to be picked up by courier.

I spoke to the supervisor and still no joy, I asked to speak to management, but it being 3am UK time, none were there. So I have to call back after 9am UK time and argue some more.

But, if I don't get a new phone sent out to me, I'll be cancelling my direct debit straight away and they can come chase me over here for the rest of the contract.

I called back during business hours spent 45mins on the phone (hope that post about 150 being free from abroad now is correct) and got no further, they just won't send a new phone out with nothing to swap it over to... and I just cant be without a phone for 3 weeks.

Doesn't seem much point me continuing to pay out my contract. Does anyone know if orange will block my imei worldwide if I cancel my direct debit?

probably will block your Imei

the worst thing is that you will have a bad credit rating ;)

It's not their fault that you're in aboard! You will achieve nothing by threating to cancel the contact as this will ensure you get a bad credit records/rating.

How about this... send it to a friend in UK. Then you friend will do the exchange for you. Once your friend get the new one, he will post it (register/ recorded delivery of course!) to you and you pay him.

This would be easier.

As you will have noticed if you were paying attention, I can't be without my phone for 3 weeks while this happens... My disgruntledness is because if I had a nokia, they could send it out to my parents by post and they could forward it to me, then I could return the old one, however because it is a smartphone they won't do this, which I accept for normal situations, however, given the circumstances, they could overule this and send it out by special delivery (which must cost less than a courier anyway) but there is no-one at orange to take responsibility for doing this.

Yes I did read all of your posts and I can see you said you can't live without the phone for 3 weeks. But what other choices do you have? Have it fail for good or wait for 3 weeks to get a working phone? If it was up to me, I would purchase a cheapo phone and transfer the SIM to it while waiting for the phone to be repaired.

I don't think it has got to do with the make of the phone, but the price of the phone.

Special Delivery does not apply as soon as it leaves UK and is not guaranteed the delivery time. UPS, FedEx or DHL would be the best way to use by Orange and yourself as they are trackable all over the world.

Good luck.
