MPx 220 problems what problems?

Bought Motorola MPx 220 sim free over the weekend to replace my now messed up SPV C500. Played with some of its functions extensively while in CPW & all seemed fine with the example I had in my hand. I didn't want to end up with a dud phone especially after reading about all the horror stories over at howardforums.

I'm not a big fan of flip phones (1st since the Motorola Startac) but I liked the design of this one. I've got the black version which has a strange velvety texture that feels lovely to hold & not as slippery as most phones but not sure about its longetivety. The case being plastic it doesn't feel as solid as the C500 but its no worse than any other plastic cased phone I've held. The flip opens & shuts with a reassuring click & thunk.

I compared it with the Nokia 6680 but decided to stick with the windows smartphone platform (lovely phone though is the Nokia).

You can see the phones vital stats in my sig.

Been using it & playing with it for the past few days & all is good. The in call volume is nice & loud, as is the external speaker. Asked the people I spoke to on the other end if my voice was ok & again no problems there.

Bluetooth seems to be working fine although I only use a headset. Paired with the wifes Nokia 6670 & my friends V3 sending & receiving files no probs.

I've not yet encountered any reboots or crashes, but then I only got Fizz Traveller & Ewallet on it.

Synchs first time & everytime with Outlook & activesync, something which the wifes Nokia has endless problems with.

What I do find is that its a tad slower than the C500 & the screen isn't as good (or as big). Battery life is not as good but not too bad either. I also don't like the volume rocker switch on the side coz its too big & too easy to press while holding the phone during a call. Also I dont see why the direction pad needs to take up so much real estate, its huge.

By the way is there any way to cancel an incoming call without opening the flip & pressing end key? I've tried all the extenal buttons & none of them do it. Only ringer is muted. I thought Motorola where the king of flip phones & not having this feature is a tad stange.

Also is there an application manger built in because I can't find it anywhere.

Its still early days so we'll see if the phone does any strange things in the later on. But as it is I'm loving it. Don't know what all the fuss was about in the first place.

Well, seeing as how you might want to upgrade to the current 1.43 ROM, but only if your on the Cingular network. the 1.43 rom does a nice job of speeding a few things up, but it still can be a little slow. I'm used to it though. As for canceling the incoming call without opening the phone, there really isn't much you can do about that other than getting SmartFilter or FilterOne (I have smartfilter and am happy with it, and haven't tried filterone) to reject calls based on certain times or based on a profile you specify. As for the application manager, you'll have to launch the resource manager and then use the built-in task manager to close apps. Switching between apps, though, you might want to find a third-party application to do that. I love the phone and my uncle just got his (still helping him set his up on T-Mobile, though), and as you said, I don't know what all the fuss was about. Its a great phone, and despite the fact that it lacks a few features, they're things I don't use and don't really want anyways, so its perfect for me.
