having big problems trying to get my new globalsat gps unit to work with tomtom 5 and the phone.

I can get it too pair with sda with any combination of passkey digits and it will stay in the device list (sometimes) but tomtom will always say "no GPS unit".

I've read some posts were poeple have had to do some tweaking, could someone please shed some light on what to do, as I 'd hate to send this unit back as faulty when all a long its me being a plank with my phone and not being to configure it correctly.

any help greatly appreciated.

cheers

Dil

I dont think that TomTom5 recognises every bluetooth device out there, so you have to rename it to one that it does recognise.

I have a GPSr which is identified as "Polstar", to get it to work with tomtom5, I went into the bluetooth settings of my C500 and renamed Polstar to:

BTGPS 25773

Then when you start TomTom it will either recognise it straight away, or you will have to go into Preferences, Show GPS Status, Configure, Choose Other BT GPS and click Continue.

This worked for me.

thanks for your reply.

this is what i had to do to get it work.

1) on the mobile delete any pairing i already had with the gps unit

2) go into bt config and tick use outbound com port 7

3) this then prompts you to pair with a device.

4)pair with device, a window on mobile opened saying enter passkey i left this blank and pressed done.

5) reboot phone

6) went in tt5 in preferences made sure ,use other gps unit was chosen.

7) turn off phone

8) turn on gps unit

9) give gps unit a minute to settle

10) turn on phone

11) opened tomtom

12) opening screen said no gps, give it a minute and it should connect.

hope the above helps anyone else

tsk..tsk if only you had all hidden your TomTom units that you got in the box when you your purchased them.

There is a lesson to be learnt by all these TT5 non TT GPS unit problem threads.
