Insurance claims with new "leaked" ROM

A friend passed a copy of the new ROM (with WMP 10) to me. I installed it and I'm enjoying the small changes that have been made. However, I'm curious as to whether it would be a problem for me to get a replacement phone from Orange Care if something where to happen to my phone. Would the check/notice the new ROM on the phone? Would they get back to me about it?

Personal opinion (from working for an insurance company) is that they will use any excuse to avoid paying out a claim. If you can revert it back then do so.

The chances are that they won't notice (If you've ever spoken to Orange CS)- Orange don't repair the phones themselves - the send them to HTC Europe so I reckon they are unlikely to remember who has released which ROM.

if you use this leaked rom until the official one comes out, then you revert to the new official rom, is there any way of orange telling that you used the leaked rom? i just want wmp10 so bad but am a little scared!

HTC are shipping units back with the 'leaked' rom on them anyway, so don't worry about it.

The same thing happened with the 1.5 update on the E100, units were shipped out with the ROM but it was still not available for the general public to download.

Indeed. Having received my original SPV back from HTC after they refurbished it I was delighted to find it had rom version 1.5 (this was back in the days before the release of 1.6).

all those people moaning about mediaplayer 10, pah! back when i was a kid we where greatful for the update that gave us the text counter in the messaging app, and the removal of the "random reboot and wipe the phone bug"

To add my two pence worth - I installed the latest French Orange ROM on my English C500, and then had it replaced under warrenty for dust. - And that was 4 months ago and no one has noticed . . . . yet

Should Orange ever release the ROM update, will I have to re-do the SIM unlocking process? :??: I used that SPV services thingmy if that makes a difference.

Yes, two handsets that have come back have both had the new rom on them.

Which is why it is so annoying that Orange won't put it up for all to enjoy.
