SD card size issue

been lurking for a while, but I have an issue that I haven't seen addressed by anyone.

I have a 1 gig SD card, and when I check its stats it sees that it has 968.25 MB to use and it breaks down how much is used and how much is free (322/646). Yet, when I try to add another MP3 to it, my PC says the card is full. My PC does not have its own SD slot, so I am transferring the file through actievsync.

update:

well, I reformatted the card as fat32 and now it stores the full amount.
