Newbie question on the MPx200?

I just recently got a secondhand MPx200 MS 2002 version from my dad.

A few things i would like to ask:

1. I can't access the Date and time. It says error.

2. What was the latest S/W ?

3. When selecting reminder timers in the calander they Orange internal LCD is a few minutes out of time to the Ext lcd time? Is this normal and you get the same results. After the end reminder time the Int. Lcd takes a few second to correct the time to that of the Ext Lcd time?

4. Turning off the Beam contact?

5. Is the Task manager and MMS support on the provided CD ?

6. SMS ringtone not that loud to incoming line ringtone? (Mine is on setting 5)

7. No ringtone and vibrate at the same time for a incoming call or text call?

Thanks !

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but my best recommendation would be to leave the 2002 OS in the dust and flash your phone with the latest 2003 available (I think that's called Supermoto2).

SMS notifications ESPECIALLY seem louder in the 2003 version of the OS. Your battery will also last longer with the 2003 version.

It's not best to flash your phone for two reasons, 1, you would be using ilegal software 2, the phone will be more unstable as the 2003 has not been through the proper test processes.

As for battery life increase this is just down to how the battery is looked after and there are no proven results that battery life is increased in 2003 over 2002, this seems to be a more of an individual occurance.

as for your problems,

1, This is a known bug, if you go to Settings\Regional Settings change the Short Date Style so you do not use the "." as this setting stops you entering Date and Time section.

2, There is not any latest software as such as no updates have officially been released. As mentioned above any updates you find will not be legal.

3, Not seen this myself ?

4, Turning off Beam is only an option on 2003 and it's used to help prolong battery life.

5, The MMS or "JMMS" application is on the CD unless you have an AT&T phone in which case it's not included. You can download it from the Motorola Italy site though.

As for Task Manager it doe not come on the phone but you can down load it from www.binarys.com this is a shareware application and well worth paying for. That along with Smart Explorer are the two most used apps on all the smartphones I have.

6, You can change the sound setting in Settings\Profiles to increase the volume but if you want anything louder you can always use your own tones.

7, You can have both ring and vibrate, this is altered in Settings\Profiles\Edit

Thanks for the info !

I have the UK version and have the Cd but could i also install the Jmms and Task manager by using a Mini card writer to the Sd card and load the applications from that. Will 16MB be enough? I don't have a USB cable. Also as for Q3 i will do more test to see if it happens again. This is a weird bug if it is one.

You can use the SD card to install apps but you would be better off buying a 5pin mini USB cable as they do not cost much. I use a retractable sync and charge cable and they cost around £10 or less.

I would also suggest you get a larger SD card as 16MB is definately too small, ideally you should be looking at 512MB card (256MB minimum) as the cost of cards are very cheap now.

With a larger card you are opening the phone to more possibilities like having movies, music and games.

Also when installing applications you should try and install them to the storage card to keep the phone's memory as free as possible.

Exceptinos to this is the JMMS app which needs to be installed on the Phone.

As for installing the Jmms. This slows the access to the sms inbox. I wonder why?
