Your TomTom Questions and Suggestions

I am interested to find out what issues people have with TomTom 4 and for the few that have it TT5. Apart from problems or "how to" questions I would also like to hear what ideas and suggestions you would like to see in future versions to improve it further?

Please post your views (or vent your anger) and I will do my best to see if I can find the answers for you ;)

My first question to start this off is,

When will TT5 become more widly available (either upgrade or full retail package)and is there a reason for the apparent delay?

I see TomTom being used on smartphones on web sites (pictures obviously),

but why is only the PocketPC version available in the US???  It seems like

it's been this way forever!!!  ANNOYING!

We've tried CoPilot for Smartphone (US), but maps seem to be WAY behind

TomTom's.

Can I get TomTom Mobile in the UK and use USA maps on it??? Our company has

a site in the UK so we "could" do this, but is it possible???

Thanks

don't know if this is a feature in TT5 or not but I use TT4 and really wish I could have an on screen speed displayed without having to go into the GPS configuration utility.

how about a follow me feature, i've been looking for such a feature for ages, tells you distance travelled, av speed etc. Would make tom tom perfect.

All this text is too small though. Speed is now an option, but its too hard to see when driving

Nice, I'll be upgrading as soon as I can.

The folllow me idea is cool too, how about a function to automatically upload your current position and/or route so far via gprs, in a similar way to cell track.

Annoying issue with THB Carkit or hardware issue on phone itself - when placed in car kit audible instructions are muted!!

I would dearly like the traffic to be more upto date. Additionally, when I have rerouted around it it nearly always try to take me back to the problem (but further up).

A facility to remeber previous routes (for example it always tells me to come off at a particular junction which I never use; I always take the next one as it is faster).

Telling me the lottery numbers prior to the draw would be nice ;)

I've upgraded to TTM5 and cannot praise it enough. When are TT going to release additional country maps (at an affordable price), instead of currently making you buy the complete kit for each country?

I am interested to find out what issues people have with TomTom 4 and for the few that have it TT5.....

The *few* that have TT5? ... Many hundreds have it, if not many thousands by now... contrary to your previously stated opinion in another thread, the new TomTom security measures didn't slow the crackers down much, if at all...

My question is simply...

TomTom, when are you going to wise up, stop trying to force us to buy GPS hardware that we don't need and start selling the software alone... at a *reasonable* price?

i have 2

1) are they going to release a fix for tt4 so it works on 4.2.x.x roms

2) will it work on the c550 (4 or 5)

later

2, no idea and I'm not sure TomTom will know yet unless they have been lucky enough to get a pre-release C550

I'm not sure if this is correct, but I find that TT4 tends to use the major A roads and Motorways. Sometimes I'd like to be able to pick the scenic route or an option - avoid major roads.

I know the find alternative may do that, but again it tries to pick the best route and some of the roads will be major roads or Mways. Granted I'm not sure how you would distinguish between a major A road like the A3 and a minor single lane A road in the middle of Wales.

I'd like to be able to save favourite routes as well as favourite addresses.

You have more options of routes in TT5 from Fastest, Shortest and Avoid motoways etc but not quite for scenic routes.

Another one I can think of,

Compatability with voice commands via a BT headset.

I've been researching to see if TomTom 5 is worth purchasing for my C500 phone.

So far, it looks very good but I can't see if it can do what I wanted - logging.

In Autoroute, it can log where I have driven along the route I took and displays on the map, from the start to finish.

I have a problem with TT 5.

After closing the app (via the exit on the app) my back light always stays on.

TOM TOM are saying thier app does not control the back light and to check the timeout for that back light.

the timeout has been set to 10 secs and always is. Even when the light stays on after the app is close the timout setting still shows 10 secs but does not go out ever.

it just kills the battery. TOM TOM say its nothing to do with them.

Anyone experiencing this issue?

Yep, I have the same problem and need to reboot the phone to turn the backlight off.

TT5 does control the backlight as this option is available in Change preferences\Backlight preferences.

Try setting your backlight control in TT5 so you use something else than Never, then reboot your phone. This appears to fix the problem.

Anyone know how to navigate to an address in their phone's contacts?

This option is only available as a seperate app that installs with TT5

it's called Contacts Navigator and should be in your Start menu.

TTM5:

1) Contact navigator needs to be integrated into the main app (even Destinator got that one right )

2) The backlight issue needs to be addressed

3) That damned "program" folder always appears in the start menu after running TT

4) Whenever you need to navigate to the nearest POI, it calculates the *physical* distance to the POI *NOT* road distance. Once, it was directing me to a petrol station and i passed one on my way to the one TT was taking me to...and the one i passed was on the map!

5) Finally, and i can't stress this point enough, TomTom is THE best sat nav product available for Smartphone and the fact that it is so good would normally lead to people actualy buying it instead of pirating it. Sell the software separately and give it a reasonable price. Sales will increase and piracy will drop.

i have been recently using tt5 and love it but once in a while it tends to just freeze and i have to restart phone to get it working again has anyone else had any problem like this?

I've not encountered this myself, do you have many apps etc running in the background? Just wondering if it's a lack of physical memory that's affecting you.

Try closing any apps that may be running and see if you still continue to get the problem.

As previously posted, all I want is access to other country maps at a sensible price, without having to also buy a 2nd GPS Receiver which I already have!!

What is TT's problem?

Why won't they sell them?

(For anyone's info who may possibly be interested, I actually have TTM 4 on a seperate SD card for both GB & Spain which works fine when I am abroad. In the UK, I use another SD card with just GB map on TTM 5. In other words I invested in a 2nd 512MB SD card instead of paying TT for something they do not sell)!

I'm relatively happy - but TT must be crazy!
