Jasmin> anyway the screen is out of warrantee

Guest> how is the screen out of warranty? when was the device made?

Jasmin> irrelevant

Jasmin> that's i-mate policy

Jasmin> the screen is out of warrantee

Guest> right, that seems like a sensible customer relations policy

Guest> especially for devices that cost $600

Guest> so I'm supposed to pay for repairs on this 1 day old device?

Jasmin> yes

Jasmin> or contact your vendor

I have no vendor, this was a gift ;)

Anyone had any success with imate support?

Thats a joke, send a snotty email to customer support and complain about the way you were treated, you might get sumthin then.

I wouldn't hold out much hope of a response from i-Mate.

It's sad, but can you get the person who gave you the gift to take it up with whoever they bought it from ? I think that is the correct legal approach.

Thanks but I can't take it up with the person with whom I got the gift, I guess I'll have to live with it, or I can continue to have fun with customer support.

I had to go to the place I bought my Mini to get the device replaced because of a DP. o2 told me that I had to take it up with the retailer.

I had a dead pixel on my MDA Compact when I got it. It was very near the edge at the bottom so not that noticable except when playing movies so I didn't bother doing anything about it.

Anyway, I read on another forum that rubbing the stylus over the top of the dead pixel reasonably hard can sometimes fix it. I did it and now the dead pixel has gone away ;)

Might be worth a try...

I tried that, and it worked for a few minutes, before it started flickering! From then on it flickered, until they replaced it.

Be careful doing that. If you press too hard you can break the LCD.

Thanks for the advice guys, I told the UK service centre that imate told me that it was up to them to repair it (which the guy did say to do), it seems to have worked, they told me to ship it to them. They're going to charge me £15 for the privilege though.

If you bought it in the UK over the phone or internet you are covered by the distance selling act which gives you 5 working days to evaluate a product and return it in mint condition for a full refund if it does not meet your expectations.

this is true, also... check out ISO pixel policy, this is an industry standard pixel policy which allows a certain number of dead pixels per million, the company i work for apply this to their monitors... as far as i can work out, the i-mate jam doesn't have enough pixels to warranty having even ONE dead pixel, therefore, the unit is not fit for purpose. they should give you a new jam.

Thanks guys, I sent it back today, hope they don't screw me over.

Thanks for the details on the ISO pixel policy, I wasn't sure what the standard was. I also believe that my jam had a 1/3rd of a dead pixel on top of that dead one, it couldn't display blue.

I didn't buy it, I received it as a gift, so there's no 5 day purchasing law that applies.

I'll let you know how it goes.

if there's a dead sub pixel above it that counts as a cluster of dead pixels which is a definate no no.

anyone else has problems with LCD monitors let me know, i know the warranty terms/industry standards on monitors inside out, if there's a way round it i'll find it

;) :D

Thanks, by on top, I meant "as well as", they're not in the same area of the display.

I suggested the rubbing the pixel in this forum somewhere! Worked for me (after it came back a few times)! :) and (touch wood) it hasn't been seen for about 4 months now!

Chuffed :D

Hope you get yours fixed matey!

Hey guys, just to let you know, I received my jam by mail today in Belgium. Apparently it was sent on the 1st, but somehow it took 10 days to reach Belgium instead of 2.

Anyways I just powered it on and it seems fine. So kudos to SBE for repairing it for me and doing a quick job at it too. I paid nothing except to send it to them.

And while I'm here, any recommendations on a 1gb sd card? Where to buy and which type of card? Any compatibility worries? Thanks.

I have a 1Gb Sandisk (standard version, not Ultra) and 1Gb Lexar (also standard) and they both work flawlessly!
