Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 You can email the Orange developers site and they can make an application unlock app designed for your phone, all you need to do is give them the phone, model and IMEI plus your number if I remember correctly. (been a while since I last application unlocked.)

Guest Jamma14 Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 When they can be bothered I think, I've had to do it twice. First time it was a day, second about three or so.
Guest evans.rhys.gavin Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 right so jamma a question for u again, when i get this app now to unlock is it worth rsking updating to the french rom, and is it just the same as a usual rom ugrade plug the phone in then clcik the .exe on the pc side and away you go ??
Guest mupwangle Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 I would be tempted not to bother with the french rom. OK, so you get WMP10 (and the ability to use mp3 ringtones) and the keypress issue is resolved, but it might be worth waiting for orange UK to get the finger out. I've just had a replacement phone and I'm holding off putting the french rom back on as I know that it can cause issues upgrading in the future and it takes ages setting everything back up to UK settings (MMS, shortcuts, etc)

I would be inclined to agree with mupwangle though, for the reasons he says. Alternatively if you are under warranty, I think you can ship your phone to HTC europe and say it's about the dust issue or something. I believe they then refurb, clean and ROM update the phone, but you'll have to pay for shipping at the very least. If I owned a c500, I'd wait for the UK update. (And not mess with WM5 at all :| )
Guest mupwangle Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 I think I've changed my mind slightly. I had the french rom update on my phone but I've had it replaced with a 4.1.1.4 rom phone. I had forgotten how bad it can be. Since I installed the french ROM the multi-press issue went away and WMP10 is *so* much better than 9. The thing I'd forgot seems to be memory leaks. (For those who don't know - that is when I program terminates and is meant to give up the resources it uses but doesn't bother - basically the memory it uses becomes locked and it seems that it is used when it is meant to be free. I wrote a text message with no other apps running and every time I confirmed a T9 message it took about 15 seconds to retype it on-screen. Rebooting fixed it. I'd done exactly the same action on the new rom and it didn't happen. I'd still stand by my original comment though - give orange a week or two if you're considering upgrading. The french rom seems OK but it is a pain in the ass to change all the region settings. It's not like it's just one button! I do miss WMP10 though. More importantly my ringtone was an MP3. I'll give orange UK 2 weeks then sod it!
Guest usdiver Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 the french one isn't worth messing with in my book...also, on the dust issue, this is correct. However, if you don't have dust in your phone, then don't send it to have it redone as they won't. ONLY if you have dust in your phone is it then a warranty and non chargeable repair, and yes you'd get the updated rom for free...from what I understand. I have already been through this as I have the c500s (don't know which generation it is), nor do I have any dust in it as of yet...but I keep waiting  I asked Tim Morvan of HTC about the update and was told to have it done it would be £35.00.... and I'd go that route before the french route...Well, I wouldn't go the french route at all. I'm still holding out for the uk rom to be released.
Guest evans.rhys.gavin Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 iv'e had 2 replacements over the past month and they have been the old rom, thing is orange care's stock is just a big pile of reconditioned handsets most probably
Guest BigLee1 Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Reading these posts has sparked my interest in the UK update (got bored of waiting). Is there any light at the end of the tunnel on a release date for the UK update? Seems like the imminent release has been imminent for about 2 months now?
Guest ukdownhill Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Theres been no mention of the uk update for a very long time now. This was only rumoured in the first place. Certainly with the release of the c550 an update is looking even less likely. I have to say, despite the negative views taken about using the french update on the uk C500. I took a risk and put it on mine, works great and has done for months. No problems at all. Granted the only real benefit is WM10 but I'm a sucker for new stuff! Having got impatient with orange I decided to take matters into my own hands. Knowing full well if it broke the possible answer would be to buy a new phone.
