Guest charliefunk Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 ok i know this may be a silly question but can someone please tell me how to set up my email on my phone i have tried and it doesnt work what am i doing wrong.........is there just a simple way??
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Whats going wrong? which bit are you stuck on. Your description is a bit vague! Have you done email setup? incoming mail server should be in the form of pop.xxxxxxx.com or net, e.g. pop.ntlworld.com. Outgoing mail server can be smtp.xxxxxxx.com, e.g. smtp.ntlworld.com. For some isp's the outgoing mail server must be smtp.orange.net.
Guest charliefunk Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 right lets run through it..i usually use hotmail, through msn mobile but want to have the mail shown on the screen as and when i recieve mail ... can i do this?? - if so how if not will i have to set up a new account??
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 I don't believe you can do POP3 email with Hotmail. When Outlook on the PC syncs with it, it is going thru an HTTP interface, not POP3. This means that you cannot have Pocket Outlook sync with Hotmail over the air, only thru a sync with the PC. Anyone know different?
Guest Bazz Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Yup Hotmail don't offer POP3 Access so you can only access it through ie (use http://mobile.msn.com/hm/folder.aspx on your SPV as http://www.hotmail.com doesn't work on Pocket IE). It's webmail as opposed to e-mail. The e-mail client only supports e-mail not webmail so there is no easy way to have the phone tell you when you have a new hotmail message.
Guest the.dude Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 slightly off topic to this thread, but I created an MMS and sent it to my email address (as opposed to using a phone number) Hey presto I received it and nearly fell off my chair.
Guest Richie M Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 The only way i know to automatically get New Mail notifications on your phone is it get an orange.net account which then sends a SMS to your phone when you recieve new mail :)

Guest yatpeak Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Do you have to be with Orange to get one of their adresses? I assume the answer is yes, but I was just wondering. Wyatt
