Has anyone experienced this....

Of late my SPV on a few occasions has completely lost reception (no-entry type sign). Yesterday I didn't check my phone and later that day I discovered that I had loads of people who could get through. I tried turning the phone off a couple of times, with no luck! So I then tried a soft re-set which worked straight away. Now as I say I've had this on a few occasions and before I call Orange and complain I wanted to find out if this was a common fault, and also see if anyone else has suffered with this.

Many thanks.

I personally never had such problems yet!

But there have been people who gave their

spvs back cause they lost too many important

calls!

would say so!

although mine is ok, as I said!

Had it replaced once, but that

was for the (also common)

headset profile problem!

If you discover more problems,

send it back!

Used to have it occasionally but haven't had it since the update.

It might be cause I've stopped abusing my phone by running 26 different apps since the novelty factor's died down a bit ;-)

I also have the update and it have reduced my use and still occasionally it happends.

I called Ornage and they said they'd have to pass me onto the echnical deptartment, I'm now awaiting their call.

At the end of the day is it worth getting it changed as its the only problem I have and the phone I get may not have the new update and probably will have some other fault, maybe I could convince them to let me change it to the P800 ;-)

How are they gonna call you if you can't recieve calls :?

Why on earth would you want to swap a lovely SPV for a P900

Guest Ross_Curtis

I can receive calls its only once a monthish that it happens and a soft reset cure's it.

Never heard of a P900? I was only joking about swaping it.

Doh, damn that pesky "9" key, always gets in the way

Glad you were joking m8 :)

Once a month?

Your phone must be the new SPVf (the female version)!

Only joking! ;-)

Now seriously:

The spvs have got better and not every phone has all of the bugs!

I only had one bug (headset profile), returned it and am 100% happy

with my phone now!

You should seriously consider replacing it!

Just imagine if you miss one of the most important calls of your life

(whatever that might be).

Your probably right I'll await the technical department's call and try and push for a new one.

Whats the best way of backing up all my data, I've used the built in back up. Most of my stuff is saved on the SD card but dont games store info IE high scores/levels on the phone?

Guest Coolboy1982

most games save in their own directory!

some might save in the registry and whilst

it is possible to back up the registry, it is

currently impossible to restore backups of it!

So unless you will write down any registry values

by hand and put them back in, you will loose them!

But I think there's more important things than highscores!

So what you'd want to do is sync with pc to keep all your contacts, calendar

events, etc and copy any file (personal homescreens, etc.) to your storage card using smartexplorer which can be downloaded for uncertified spvs

from http://www.monolithix.org/SPV_software or use your pc's explorer

and save them on disk!

That should be everything you'd need!

Any specific questions such as how to copy sms if you really need to,

can be answered by looking around this forum!

Hope I could help!

I have this problem as well and personally think it is linked to GPRS usage... But it does happen and is very annoying! I now also have a headset bug and can only fix it by blowing in the socket and sticking a pen in there too! Shite!! Plus the dust under the screen and my SD fails to read once in a while... Replacement here I come!

Have I all this to look forward to?

My only bug so far is that sometimes when I connect the battery charger it dosen't show the mains charging icon on the screen. When I turn off and on again it is ok.

What is the Headphone bug. I haven't used the headset yet?

Just found the answer a couple of threads down.

About the lost connection.

I also have experienced this a couple of times, today I tried to make a call and no matter how many times i recalled the number nothing happend, then I turned it off and back on, but with no positive result.

Then i called another number and suddenly it worked again, and then i received a bunch of messages an sms that were several hours old.

Apperently it seem to lock up in receiving everything for some time.

I also very often get the message "unable to answer the call" when trying to answer an incomming call.

And when I am at it.

The caller ID presentation seem to have lost something in the update, before I got the name from the phonebook presented everytime that I got an incomming call, now it is rare that the name shows on the screen eventhough the number is in the phonebook (and the problem is not the +45 prefix).

When you start to dail a number, the phone automaticly search the phonebook for a contact with the pressed digits, this function apparently only works on the first number that is in the contact file, i. e. if you have a second number listed below it dosent show in the "search". Am I the only one with this problem? or is it a general bug. It it a really cool feature if it worked properly.

And last....

The reminder in the calender now only give one sound effect and then it stops, before you would have to presse dismiss in order to stop the sound. (is this somthing in the settings?)

I am really happy with my SPV but if there is a bug in it I will have to send it back and get a new one quickly, I cant afford to loose those calls.

I am running DK2 update. Standard Orange, no De-cert or anything.

Please let me know if anyone of you have any of these problems.

The easiest way to transfer your settings from one SPV to another is to use the bootloader (version 0.98 won't work unfortunately ) to save an image of your SPVs memory to an SD card. You'll need at least a 32mb card, and then choose "save all" in the bootloader menu. When you get your new SPV, put the card in, start your SPV in bootloader mode and it will say "found pboot, WINCE, GSM, IPSM click action to download". Press the action key and it will copy the contents of the card to your new SPV. Once it's finished (it will say "passed") restart the phone and you'll have an exact copy of your old SPV!

This method does rely on a couple of things -

- You don't have bootloader version 0.98

- You have a 32mb or bigger SD card

If you have bootloader 0.98 then either use a program called USBTerm to copy and restore your data to and from the card or replace the bootloader on your SPV with version 0.93 (downloadable from Smartphony.org I think) and use that to backup your data. If you don't have a big enough SD card then you'll need to get the 0.93 bootloader onto your SPV and use that to backup your IPSM only ("save IPSM" option in the bootloader). IPSM is actually all you need to backup but I suggested choosing "save all" because that's the only way you can restore a backup easily using the latest bootloader (0.98.)

Hope that made some sense!

Yeah, that's an annoying one. I presume it would just be too slow to search all numbers. They should have a search funtion though.

You know you can dial a name (it works like T9) and then highlight the contact and press right and left to select a different number (work, mobile, home... etc).

I'd also like it to find sequences in the middle of a number (dialing 1234 should find +447123456789), but again that would probably really slow the phone down.

At the minute it's pretty good and, most importantly, nice and fast. If they started adding all possible search things then it might slow it down and also match more often meaning it would take longer to find a contact. I like it at the mo.

Hi,

Is your phone second hand? if so it might be nicked and have been reported lost or stoled to orange, who would have blacklisted it and stoped it from being able to get a signal on orange. This happened to me when i bought a Nokia 7650 off ebay. Call orange and ask them to check the imei number.

Had this problem only once. Turned phone off & on again and since then no problems.

ok... I don't get the same problem but.... (it's close)

I stiff have signal, could be full or just have it, but the phone has signal and Orange is displayed as it always should be.

But....

Nothing comes through, no text or phone calls. I can turn off and turn on the phone and a load come through at once! (This doesn't happen very oftern, but it is annoying when it does!) (Oh, and I also get a few answer phone messages, so even phone calls arn't getting through)

Also..... (I could go on all night ;)) When my SPV has been connected in the cradle, I take it out and use any GPRS app (explorer or e-mail or messenger) and it just tells me it is dialling, but I can leave it for ages, and it never connects. I have to turn off+turn on the phone to get it to connect. This can get annoying as I fill in all the predictive text words and loose them when I re-set it :(

I have hard-reset the phone, updated it and also de-certed it, but it still does it. I would try anything other the sending it back to orange as it's getting close to 'Well custermized' now, thanks to all you guys

Any ideas anyone, and any cool mods out there?

(Also looking for a english free file manager program)

Cheers Guys

Ok, thanks for the links about modding... soon my phone will be as bad as my pc!

As for the other 'little niggles', any ideas? I've noticed today aslo, it does an 'unable to answer call' error when I try to answer incomming calls, but this doesn't happen all the time either. But it's only ever happened in silent mode (conincidence?)(can I spell?)

Thanks
