I am a new user of the Audiovox 5600 which has the Smartphone OS. I have been able to download images to the device but how do I apply it as a wallpaper? I would like to see it as a background image on the home screen. Am I using the wrong term? Is it called applying a home screen?

Hi dude, and welcome to the forum!

You're using exactly the right terminology, and don't worry - most people here spoke English before they changed to Techie-speak anyway!

To view a picture on your homescreen, you need to save the picture into the folder Storage / Application Data / Home. Then go into Start / Settings / Home and select your picture from the drop down list on Background Image.

It's exactly the same process to install a new homescreen, except in that case they mostly come as a JPEG picture and an XML file (this tells the phone which bits of the homescreen to display where). Also, some homescreens come as a self installer - either on the PC as an EXE or on the phone as an HME (I think). Just put these somewhere and run them and they'll put the pictures in the right places.

As homescreens and backgrounds take up room on the phone's internal memory, I tend to keep my stash of them on my memory card, then copy and paste the one I want into the Home folder, activate it, then delete the old one. This is probably over-kill, but I used to keep hundreds in the Home folder on my original SPV and slowed the poor thing down to a crawl! Now I'm paranoid not to do the same again... ;)

Have fun, and don't forget to check out the downloads section for some really cool homescreens and images.
