Guest seanrkelly Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Dear all, I challenged Orange about a future upte to the phone in the UK and also the lack of pro-active discussion with enthusiast web sites such as this one. This is the reply I received and as you can see, the reasoning to all the bugs is aburd (Differences in Manufacturing Specifications!! - I thought there was only one SPV!! Duhh!) Anyway they have suggested that there are no time scales for the update - I have also sent this comment to www.theregister.co.uk It's about time that ORANGE woke up, smelt the coffee and listened to all the wonderful work being performed by all us enthusiasts!! ANywayz!! enough of my rant - here's the reply from Orange: Dear Sean Thank you for your mail. I am sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your SPV. I can advise that some of the issues are simply variances in specifications between different manufacturers and handset models e.g. The use of more than one E Mail account. Orange are committed to the continuous improvement of the SPV, however I do not have any specific timescales regarding updates. You may like to know that we are collecting feedback regarding the SPV at http://spv.orange-today.co.uk and selecting the 'how to' link For further information I would suggest that you call our Data Support Team on 156 from your Orange phone or 07973 100 156 from any other phone, where a Data Representative will be able to assist you further. I trust this information is of assistance. Kind regards Mike Orange Customer Services
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Taken from Oranges response we are collecting feedback regarding the SPV at http://spv.orange-today.co.uk and selecting the 'how to' link Orange Customer Services The page was Last updated: 13:37 Monday 23rd December 2002 Nice to see orange are on the ball  They really KNOW what they are talking about ;)  :D Also could not see a "how to" link on that page only a http://spv.orange-today.co.uk/news/story/s.../sm_732318.html link
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I can advise that some of the issues are simply variances in specifications between different manufacturers and handset models e.g. The use of more than one E Mail account. WTF?!?!? P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I work as technical support. That kind of phrase is usually used when you are in a "not another whining customer, make something up that will hopefully confuse them and put them off calling again" mood. In their defence, OCS does have to provide support for all mobile models. But there should be a dedicated line set up for SPV users, to address and record these problems. I tried to get on to their technical team once however they "aren't customer facing". Never mind ;)
Guest seanrkelly Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I hear what you are saying Monolithix. I also work within technical support and my team strive to provide an excellent service - doesn't matter how much customer may whine. It can take a long time to gain the confidence of a new customer - but can take a second to lose them!! All I am asking for is a diffinative comment from Orange regarding the acceptance of the many bugs on it and the pro-active work thay plan to put in place to rectify these problems. It's not a lot I am asking for and I suppose will help Orange in te long run as well - one statement will stop people like me constantly barraging them with questions. Come on Orange - of you're reading this - what's the latest!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Unforutnately we've had a lot of "diffinative comments" regarding date/updates/devlopers/etc. I expect the first diffinative one we get will be "we have developed a patch to plug the flaw that allows viruses to be spread over our network". Then hopefully the infamous update to deal with all the issues that _are_ in fact problems will be released soon after. Orange have brought it upon themselves to be honest.
Guest strathclydezero Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Are we going to get this patch before the time comes to upgrade again?
Guest benny Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Are we going to get this patch before the time comes to upgrade again? That depends - a lack of upgrade might well make upgrade time a fair bit closer than you think! B
Guest arawak Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I called Orange five days ago to get a response to three questions and am still awaiting a response from them as they passed them onto "tech support". To be quite honest it's ridiculous that I am still awaiting a response considering they claim to repsond within that time. The questions I asked were:- 1. When is the update due for the SPV? 2. Why do I get a painful tone just before I get an engaged tone, lose my signal, etc? 3. When will the new battery be available to us? Needless to say these aren't exactly difficult questions for them to answer! I am seriously considering demanding a refund as I refuse to put up with the painful tone I get as mentioned above. They should be resolving this issue for me if nothing else  I will let you know if I hear anything from them regarding any of these issues. Cheers A
