Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Hello Paul... Good idea, a beginners section. A question: I am a newbie/beginner. I know nothing abt app development. So, what advantage would it be for me to unlock the certification on my phone? It seems to wok fine for me (I have had it for 3 weeks now). Will doing this allow me, as a 'beginner' to do more with the phone? Cheers.
Guest yzbob Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 im in the same position as you, and i have unlocked mine(mainly cause i dont like being told i cant do something) 1 advantage i would say is of benifit at the moment, is a bigger screen in media player. apart from that i wouldnt say there is any great advantage to us at the moment until unsigned apps start comming out. the other reason i did it now instead of waiting, was incase orange did a sneaky update that closed the hole. anyone agree/disagree or want to add anything further?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 You can customise a lot more of the phone as unlocking allows you to edit resgistry values. As for running unsigned applications, as yzbob said until they become more widely available there isn't much out there yet, although there are some unsigned games on hanango. Try searching the forums for more information
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 If Orange do make an update available to fix the hole, then it will close it again if you have opened it! Generally speaking, there aren't (m)any unsigned apps out at the moment, so unless you going to use the application development toolset, there is not a whole lot of point. But, of course, lots of people do it, just cos they can! ;) P

Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Thanks for that. I think I will leave things as they are for the moment. As folks say, if it aint broke, dont fix it. I will watch the certification debate with interest and maybe, juts maybe, I might just pluck up the courage to kill the certification 8) The SPV seems to do all that I require it to at this time. Thats not to say, as more and more unsigned apps become available I will not want it to do more. Cheers
