Guest midgetdiablo Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 hey sorry. this is kinda a dumb question, but i was wondering if you have to pay for some functionalities such as surfing the net, cheking ur email, and using msn messenger. i just find it kinda weird that you spend so much money on something you have to pay for. but then if you have a free msn messenger, whats the point of having SMS text messaging. and also, what other stuff do you have to pay for in the phone?
Guest Transform Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 it depends... when i was on contract with orange they gave me so many megabytes for gprs per month and then i would have to pay after that. if you want pay as you go you would have to pay to using internet explorer, msn messenger and emails at whatever rate your service provider is at for wap or gprs.
Guest mupwangle Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 On a mobile phone, depending on contract and network provider and stuff, you have to pay for all data on the network. This includes messenger, email, web browsing etc. If you are on GPRS you are charged by the Mb, which can be up to about £10 per Mb. Obviously you can get deals. The messenger software may be free but it isn't free to use on a mobile.
Guest midgetdiablo Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 hmm... what does space(megabytes) have to do with not having to pay for the internet though? and does the GPS require a payment? (as in the navigator thing) cuz if i remember correctly, the normal PDA's are free when using GPS.
Guest Madeye Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Hey Midgetdiablo, Megabytes, in this sense of the word, do not exactly refer to space (ie memory) but rather how much data will be downloaded via WAP/GPRS onto your phone. Any surfing online of any kind such as emails, internet explorer, msn messenger and so on will use a certain amount of kilobytes/megabytes. Much the same as using up a download limit on your home broadband connection - if you know about that! Just thought I'd explain that bit to ya!
Guest midgetdiablo Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 (edited) lol. so would you guys consider using the internet expensive? how many megabytes did they give to you? do they count by time limit or by messages? Edited June 24, 2005 by midgetdiablo
Guest Transform Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 orange werent very generous with me coz i think i only got 1mb per month so i didnt use it unless i really needed it. if u use gprs it counts by the data sent and recieved not by time. so if u use 1mb of data it costs x amount of money. wap is done by the minute so x amount per minute.
Guest midgetdiablo Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 wow. wait so do you mean if you just stay on msn without talking to anyone, its free?
Guest mupwangle Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 >>so would you guys consider using the internet expensive? Extremely. GPRS (Not to be confused with GPS) is a way of downloading data across mobile networks. It is pretty much permanently connected and you pay for how much you bring down. That means if you spend time reading something you've downloaded then you don't pay for the extra time. If you are on messenger it won't be free as it will still have to send and receive to get status messages and general stuff like that but it will be less expensive than the old system which would charge you for the time rather than how much you send.
Guest midgetdiablo Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 is there a way you can connect to your own internet connection and use it for free? if so, how does that work?
