Guest cepheus1 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Hey everyone ;) Great site!! Just spent the past 4 hours here reading up on everything (My head hurts!) Just got my phone yesterday at 2.30pm GMT, so am a real Newbie and thought I would let you know my experience so far. I couldn't get GPRS to work even after O sent me my text. Phoned 156 and the lady on the end was FANTASTIC. She said that she reckoned that some phone settings were wrong and as I had called on mt SPV she would phone me straight back to set the phone up with me. She phoned me back within 30 seconds, stayed on the phone with me for 30 minutes, answered all my questions (turned out my primary and secondary DNS's were not set up) helped me set up my email (the smtp had to set up for O and not Virgin as I had assumed!)....and then directed me to this FANTASTIC site!!! How's that for great O service! S**t, I'll suppose it will be all downhill from now then!!!! :? QUESTION??????? Please can someone tell me if there is anyway I can just snap pictures with my camera WITHOUT going through MMS? By the time I've clicked through 20 seconds of menu's that KODAK moment has been lost!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 The only bundled software you can take pictures with is the MMS software unfortunately. Try IA-Album from the Orange area on the handango website, a lot easier and quicker to use. Also you said OCS actually gave you the address for this site?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 The only way to snap pictures without using MMS is buy buying 'IA Album' from http://www.handango.com/orange-cobrand/. It's pretty good tho! ;) P
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Thanks for the info Guys - appreciated ;) ...and yep....you *DID* read me correct....the lady at OCS on 156 *DID* read out this web site address for me over the phone and said it was the BEST site for support and sharing info with other SPV users :!: But you know what....now I think back....she was *WHISPERING* LOL
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 This site should be required reading for their tech team imho. nm, at least some of them know of this sites exisitence
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Another question? Can I get my SPV to have bluetooth connectivity via the SD slot? I use Bluetooth to connect to my PPC which is much easier than messing about with IR! If you can add Bluetooth via SD has anyone tried it? ...and whats the cheapest place to buy 128mb of SD.....please :?:
Guest youngerpants Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I got my SD card from expansys http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=MMC-128 arrived in 2 days and I'm very happy with it. Cant complain for £47 inc vat & postage As for SD/ Bluetooth. I dont see why it cant be done in theory once someone has written and certified drivers for the card... i dont know if the OS can handle it tho
Guest Firaas Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 http://www.valuemedia.co.uk is probably the cheapest - around £45 including (usually next-day) delivery.
Guest angeleyes Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 OCS also gave me this website - i'm glad they did - i'd be completely lost without it. so many hints and tips etc that have really helped me out. ;)
Guest mugen Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Just for the record I was already a lurker here but the chap at Orange suggested this site to me too - I suspect he was an enthusiast rather than it being an official Orange thing. Great site btw - thanks
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Thanks for all the feedback guys - especially on the SD cards! ;) Are you sure that IA Album allows you to use the camera....I can't find ANY option to take photo's with that software! Does ALL-explorer allow you to do anything that Active Sync won't already do :?:
Guest amo Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Make sure you have the latest version of the software
Guest pride Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Well I have traded in my old nokia for a SPV & after 2 days was seriously thinking I had really made a bad decision. Couldn't get the phone to do anything worthwhile & the 2 manuals that O supplied weren't exactly user friendly or helpful. However after finding this message board an awful lot of stuff made sense (Orange - wake up & see how a users guide should be written). Now I'm going to stick with the phone - hope that O update the software soon - have ordered a SD card & hope I know what to do with it but if I can't figure it out I'll be back to ask the helpful guys on this board. Message to other Newbies - stick with it - You'll never know such happiness as when you manage to customise something for the first time! ;)
Guest Bazz Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Are you sure that IA Album allows you to use the camera....I can't find ANY option to take photo's with that software! ;)The (old) version included on the SD card doesn't. Does ALL-explorer allow you to do anything that Active Sync won't already do :?: Certain files are only viewable on the phone. It also shows the free space on your SD card which nothing else does. Other than that I haven't used it much and have in fact taken it off my phone. It's not the be all and end all that people make it out to be. Yeah, it something similar should have been included for free, but you can survive without it... just. Barry
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Well, it's nice to know I wasn't just being stupid with that IA software...I did load the trial version that came on the SD card...so that explains it...Thanks! You say that you can only view certain files on the phone, but if you use Active Sync and "View Folders" and then check "Show hidden Files and Folders" can you not get to see everything that ALL-explorer does :?:
Guest Bazz Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Apparently not. Paul (the owner of this site) posted that some files which were left over from screwed up installs cannot be seen in active synch. Do a search for it. Can't say I've noticed myself he usually knows what he's talking about!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I have ;) if you use active sync you cannot view IPSMwindowsAppMgrinstall folder but all-explorer goes straight there. If you compare activesync and all-explorer there are differences. Also If you try an install but it fails ie goes back to the home page rather than give an error thats when the files can be left there.
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 OK...I need someone to prove I'm not blind...or stooopid! The previous link in this thread to the O Handango store for IA Album doesn't actually offer IA Album! When I visit Handango and search and find IA Album for the SPV there isn't a demo for download! So can anyone point me to where I can *actually* get a demo version of IA Album so I can give the Camera function a whirl before blowing $20 :?: Thanks in anticipation guys ;)
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Please help on this one guys! I know you can
Guest zenabi Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I don't think there is a demo avaiable for the latest version of IA Album - I just checked at www.iastyle.com and $20 isn't too bad when it includes free upgrades to all future versions of the program.
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Thanks for replying....I had started to lose hope than anyone was going to answer this question  I agree, I don't think $20 is much...but I DO have a problem with software developers not making a demo of their products available :x I have been using Pocket PC's for the past 3 years and have spent hundreds and hundreds of $'s on software but as a principle I insist on trying before I buy! The only times I have ever had my fingers burnt with software purchases was when there wasn't a demo and the hype convinced me to waste my money :x The only interest I have in IA Album is the ease in which it allows me to use my camera attachment i.e how quickly I can snap a picture! Seeing as they have added this camera use functionality, I don't think it is too much to expect them to make a demo available :?:
