HELP! SPV C500 simlocked - need to unlock to t-mo

Hello all,

I just bought an Orange SPV C500 straight off of ebay. I have always been a T-Mobile customer and I wanted to use this phone with T-Mobile, but obviously, it is locked to Orange out of the box. When I popped in my T-Mobile SIM, I get a popup saying:

SIMLock: "Network is locked. Please input unlock code".

I am unable to get even the IMEI number because I can't get past this screen. T-Mo customer service could not do anything about this - they said to call Orange, but I've never been an Orange customer (I live in the US :-).

I have just charged the phone, and am yet to install ActiveSync. Do I need to do that first?

Thanks,

beemboy

No, you don't need activesync for that.

You can get a free sim unlock from SPV-Developers (i think it was them, apologies if not). Search the forum and You'll find it.

You can get your IMEI from the sticker under the battery. They all seem to start 3533... and you may need to add "01" to the end.

Hi,

Thanks much for your reply. From reading the forums, I understand that these are the 2 main steps I need to follow to unlock a C500:

1) App-unlock my phone. To do this, I need to write to the Orange SPV developers to get the unlock code and the smartphone app to do so

2) SIM unlock my phone by using the cool app written by the spv-developer guys

However, I can't even perform step #1 because after I turn on the phone, the first thing displayed is a SIMLock dialog box that I cannot get past since I do not know the code:

SIMLock: "Network is locked. Please input unlock code".

Is this something I need to get from Orange? I'm trying to use a US T-Mobile SIM card with the phone.

thanks in advance.

Try and you the free unlocker with out a sim card in the phone, I have tried it with mine and it seems to work but i have used it before, you never know, short of that you will need to buy a orange sim card or use imei-check to unlock the phone.
