Can't get into sounds menu anymore - help!

I downloaded the registry editor today, and, more than likely through my own doing, i cannot access my sounds menu any more. I followed all of midnights instructions, but for some reason the sounds would not install. I thought that you had to delete the original sound file before creating a 'new value' to put the sounds in to replace the dtmf's etc..

Would this have anything to do with the fact my sounds menu is now completely inaccesible!!??

Help me please - the first time in my life i've been phased by technology!

you didn't have to delete original sound files!

Just the registry values pointing to files that you

didn't want to hear, and create new ones for

the new sounds.

Could you explain in monkey laguage please?!

I have a good grasp of technology, but not when it comes to names and terms inside gadgets - that's when i get stumped!

Just a walkthrough that just confirms i'm doing something right would be ok!

I thought midnights walkthrough was quite detailed...

Don't really know where I could help you then...

Just wait until midnight himself finds this thread or pm him!

I'm sure he will know, what your problem is

i've replied, all is not lost

heh, i have actually made it so i cant go into my sounds menu on purpose

i hate it when i go in there by accident and it resets some of my tones, so, forced it not to open ;)

Midnight, thanks for the PM.

However, i still can't get into my sounds under settings!

It just comes up with a screen 'The settings could not be opened'.

What have i done! As far as i know, i haven't screwed around with anything to do with the menu's etc.

Help - my spv is f***ked!

nah, cant be fooked, the only thing that can force the sound settings to not open is an error in the registry settings, and in that case it can be fixed and usually its the Category value that stops this from opening (script wont do much i wouldnt think, and the ringtone just defaults back if you get that wrong....

chech the Category for RingTone0 is set to Ring

check the Category for E-Mail is set to Notification

check the Category for Sms is set to Notification

check the Category for Clock is set to Alarm

remember, it is case sensitive

basically, the full list of settings i have i have sent to you, check the Category values for ALL settings, basically, dont mess around with these too much unless you know what you are doing cos it can cause problems with the sound settings.

i have just tried different ways to stop myself going into the sound settings, and the only way i can force it to stop going in is to change the category, errors in Script and Sound make no difference no matter how messed up you make the values

Nope, still saying settings can't be opened - and i can't get the phone to hard reset either. Did it first time when i de-certed, but it doesn't seem to want to know now, even though i've done it with no problem on 5 other peoples phones!

Why is my sound menu not accessible? I can't stand these Trium like beeps anymore!

well, if the sounds aint playing then thats another problem, and it isnt related to the sound settings, but seriously, the only way to prevent going into the sound setting is by changing the category, you havent changed any of the Sound Categories keys have you?

as for not playingthe tones, that can only occur if the path is incorrect

oh, if you wanna reset your phone, thats easy, you can force it to reset by changing the operator logo to a path that doesnt exist, and it resets the phone settings and registry, and also puts back the certification (basically it rebuilds the whole of the registry and the windows folder) it is not exactly a hard reset however as all your contacts and programs remain (but because it puts the certification back then no doubt most of your programs wont work anyway) but, seeing as how you are having problems with the sound settings i am not prepared to tell you how to mess the settings up to reset the phone especially as you'd have problems decerting again if you cant hard reset.

sorry i cant help more, but i really dont know the solution if it isnt a messed up or renamed category somewhere. and you are definitly doing something wrong if the tones arent playing at all (again, could actually be a category problem)

erm, one question, when you deleted the key for Sound you didnt delete the Category key aswell did you? (this is why i actually explained for Dtmf tones that I rename the Sound key, not delete it, you shouldnt have to delete anything from the registry and i seriously advise people not to unless they know what they are doing)

I think i may have done the same as you but i fixed it by going back into Registry etc....then where the instructions say remove the p....put it back in so it reads Script again and (for me anyway) hey bingo the sounds can be accessed again !!!!!

I feel a bit daft but at least i have my sounds back again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hehe, ahhhhhh, no, that isnt what it means, you go into the Script key, and the Data Value in the script key is 'p' and thats what you remove

guess my instructions arent clear enough on that
