Guest Coolboy1982 Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Hi everyone! Is it possible to create file associations like on a desktop pc, so that for example the .pss slideshows start with the pocket slide show app when you click on them in smartexplorer? At the moment I always have to open things through the appliactions, apart from pre-assigned things like webpages or multimedifiles... Sorry if this was covered before! Didn't find this.
Guest Richie M Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Yeah, sort of - it's all held in the registry, i tried to get txt files to open in NotBad but couldn't get it to work ;) Midnight is the man to ask
Guest Precognisant Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 first go to hkey_classes_root and add a key; called .avi and add a default value like avifile again in hkey_classes_root add another key called the same name ie avifile. In here put two keys; a) DefaultIcon key (optional) Shell key Within the Shell key add another one called Open and within this (yawn)another called Command and then a Default value of the path to the required exe to open the file. Works for me!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003  Midnight has an older brother!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 When this is in place, what happens when you have a shortcut to a content file in Start Menu? Does clicking on it automatically start it in the proper app? Because my Start Menu is about to suffer a MAJOR overhaul if this is the case... and become my only interface to the phone's contents.
Guest jim80b Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 hey richie i got notbad opening txt's fine try: in hkey_classes_roottxtfileshellopencommand change default to (mines on storage card so) "Storage CardProgram FilesnotepadNotBad.exe" %1 make sure the quotes are there, and the %1, as it doesnt seem to work on mine without them tried the same thing for orneta notepad but it doesnt like it so i'm keeping with notbad
Guest midnight Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 yup, all this works, the %1 represents the filename that is passed to the executable file and thats how the exe opens the file you select
Guest kingbing Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 You should put the %1 in quotes "%1". Otherwise files with spaces in IPSMProgram Filesmadeup.txt will fail...
Guest geovass Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 tried the same thing for orneta notepad but it doesnt like it so i'm keeping with notbad Well for me OrnetaNotepad.exe worked !! It worked like charm ! Have another go ! It is working !
Guest Orneta Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Well for me OrnetaNotepad.exe worked !! It worked like charm ! Have another go ! It is working ! yes, it is working with Orneta Notepad - it was just added in later version so that's why it didn't work at first. by the way: watch MoDaCo this sunday for next version of the Orneta Notepad with more features.... (if you have new feature wishes regarding Orneta Notepad then submit them here)

Please Do help, this is the only way I can view pix outside the lame IA Album This comes from an old thread! In the latest version of Smart Explorer (beta 5 I think), you can control file associations without fiddling in the registry. Hit file > open then manage file types and reassociate jpg with your picture viewing application. Failing that, try re installing Smart Explorer and double check the file does exist on your phone.
Guest sprazz Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 yup the file does exist. ok i tried reassociating. it says "Can't find 'Image01.jpg' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available."
Guest martin Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 sprazz I remember posting some registry info here Don't know if it will help as another (unknown) solution was found for the jpeg problem. Let us know if the registry settings prove helpful :)
Guest jack_561 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 I just use SmartExplorer 2.0b5 for the file extentions
Guest ziggystardust888 Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 With email messages in my inbox, someone sent me a tif image. it wont open directly from the message (although similar emails with jpeg attachments are fine). how do i associate tifs with the album image viewer so they open via the inbox? I'm using a O2 xPhone (E200 equivalent) Win Smartphone 2003 OS
