Guest merlin Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I'm currrently looking at developing a selection of network tools etc. but my first thought was it would be nice if there was a nice easy way of giving us the IP Address of the Smartphone - so i've done just that. Any feedback would be welcome. New version now picks up any additional IP addresses you have attached i.e. from GPRS/USB and also inlcudes the ppp_peer info.hostinfo.zip
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Same when GPRS is connected or disconnected....
Guest James Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 mine only looks like that when i have got the rdio off, when i turn it on again and access GPRS through IE i get the IP address.
Guest fraser Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Works for me. Interesting, on the cradle, I get a 192.168.0.0 address, but my PC doesn't know to route to it. As ActiveSync doesn't have an interface, I can't see any way I can add a route to it. All I want to do is ping my phone!! So, I tried GPRS instead. I got a 172.23.0.0 IP address, no reply to pings from my PC. Traceroute reports the address as being one of my companies labs in the USA. Hmm, is this a private subnet? :?: I'm guessing this phone works with a NAT system. That pretty much rules out incomming communication, except possibly by another user on the same subnet. Maybe a PC hooked up to a GPRS modem might be able to ping it, but I've only one GPRS device available here, so I can't try it.

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Activesync uses TCP/IP to communicate with the phone i believe (don't ask me for details though ), no idea why you can't ping it though... 172.xxx.xxx.xxx is reserved IP range for internal networks, same as 192.xxx.xxx.xxx and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. All GPRS comms are done through a NAT-type firewall as you point out. Its Oranges future-is.orange.co.uk gateway (go to www.whatismyip.com through GPRS and do a reverse lookup of the IP it returns ;)), you are just DHCP'ed the internal ip when you connect...
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 eerrmm.... All-Explorer has shown this information since Day 1.
Guest youngerpants Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Hi Merlin what other network tools are you looking at developing (ping, traceroute, finger, etc???)
Guest fraser Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I'm looking forward to seeing a full suite of net tools on this phone! Pitched right, it could become the Sys Admins best friend.
