Guest dbiallos Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Hi, Last weekend I went to The Link to purchase the SPV, but when it came time to providing identification, a letter from my recently-opened-account at HSBC was not enough. They need a statement! I was soooo frustrated as I had a creditcard statement from an Aussie bank sent to my address here, but they didn't accept that becuase it wasn't british! :x So come Monday I sent to HSBC to "order" a statement, they told me that it would be sent to my address. It is now Thursday (I want to buy the phone this weekend) and still have received nothing! What do I do? I haven't been long enough at my address to use other proof. Can HSBC stamp something or do something? Please help?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Have you got a UK driving license? I used mine for address confirmation....
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 A difficult one...I think you'll probably have to wait for the statement to come through, unless you have any other official documents with both your full name and address on...
Guest casper508 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Bank statements usually take about 4-7 working days to arrive. So it seems that could be monday! Most companies have a 2+ yr UK residance requirement when you opt for a contract phone, some even 3yr+. But even then they tend to give you the product on payment of a refundable amount. A mate got his from Freedom Mobiles' website after paying £80 upfront. Have you tried any web stores??
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 ... A mate got his from Freedom Mobiles' website after paying £80 upfront. ... I had to shell out 150 quid up front.
Guest Maverick Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Yeah.. Unless you have stayed in the UK for some time, U'll be declined. I was declined.... But I still got the phone on contract !! ;-)
Guest Coolboy1982 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I had to shell out 150 quid up front. Me too (150) and that althoug a first order in december, which I cancelled after waiting 3 weeks as it was out of stock, went through a credit check (2 years UK history) and they said I didn't have to pay a deposit. When I reordered through a cheaper website (first time was orange directly), they (Orange not that site) charged me these 150 quid and said they couldn't find the last credit check (passed) anymore when I complained. I even had an orange contract before, when I was at boarding school, but then someone else had signed up for me, as I was under 18. Oh well, guess that just means I will have a reserve of 150 quid next year, which I cannot spent on booze (not that I really would, but anyway).
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I'm a poor "student" with no credit history to speak of Like you say though, at least i have £150 to look forward to next xmas
Guest VodaSPV Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 You can just go to the bank and ask them to provide you with a copy of the full-statement for your account there and then. They should print it and provide it to you straight away. However, if they insist then ask your bank to compose a letter to the Link (Orange) verifying your address in the UK.
Guest casper508 Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I had to shell out 150 quid up front. Outch !! Thats steep mate. Atleast you'll get it back. I confirmed with my mate and he'll get it credited to his bills, NOT a refund. But thats in case he stays with orange after the contract expires. Cas
Guest madu Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 You can just go to the bank and ask them to provide you with a copy of the full-statement for your account there and then. They should print it and provide it to you straight away. However, if they insist then ask your bank to compose a letter to the Link (Orange) verifying your address in the UK. The whole point is that you receive the letter at THAT address, so a printed-on-spot statement would either have no address or somehting like that...
