Guest vijay555 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 is ozone Smartphone 2003 or PocketPc 2003? :? http://www.brighthand.com/article/First_Po...Details_Surface
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Well seeing as "Ozone" was running on a SmartPhone in the pictures we all saw....
Guest vijay555 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 that's exactly what i was going to say Monolithix, but i couldn't be bothered to find the link. But, i'm wondering, is _that_ phone more P800 than smartphone, ie PocketPc2003 shoe-horned into a Smartphone format, or is it plain-vanilla "Smartphone 2003" running on a "normal" smartphone? does that make sense? V
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Don't forget Pocket PC 2002 and SmartPhone 2002 are really the same behind the scenes, so why couldn't it be both? P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Also very true. Have they done a Nenode with Ozone? Taken the WinCE v and given it a shiney front end?
Guest vijay555 Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I previously thought of Smartphone 2002 as a subset of PocketPc, since it doesn't carry VB support and some other bloaty gubbins. I'm just wondering if they're going to squeeze all of PocketPc2003 into the next Smartphone, or give us another subset? It's kinda a moot point; however, having developed on WinCe and PocketPc, it's easy to say that to date smartphone has a more limited environment (eg no evb and .net). Hopefully some of these issues will be addressed in Smartphone 2003 and even more homebrew will pop up! V
Guest Maverick Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Sometimes I just wish MS stop appending the century (or the year) on all their product names. A year goes by and all these MS products sound dated !! :-P
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 My impression is that Smartphone is PocketPC adjusted to a different paradigm. Ie. no stylus, fixed defined screen size (to make app compatability simple) etc. I get the feeling that the next Smartphone OS (ozone?) will not majorly change these things but will add .NET and the stuff that was missing from smartphone 2002 such as standard file dialogue boxes etc. Will hopefully make app programming a lot simpler and quicker.
Guest vijay555 Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 now the £1,000,000 question (#cough#) is whether we will be able to upgrade SP2002 to SP2003, as with PocketPC. even if they do a cut down SP2002.5, allowing us old SP2002 users to get _most_ of the shiny new stuff, but not the bloat, that'd be great (as with the PocketPc 2002 upgrade, where some of the stuff was cut out of rom, but made available for download) and re the century thing, tell me about. Here i was marvelling about how great Visual Studio was. Then you read that it was released in 1998, when quasi-futuristic clothing was all the rage and Windows Millenium but a pipe-dream. Ah, but hindsight is a valuable thing.
