SPV Bootloader missing features after Orange's ROM Update

I'm sure this has been talked about already, but when I tried to search I got so many posts it would have taken ages to sift through them.

After the Orange ROM update my SVP bootloader has had most of the functionality removed except for Erase IPSM (and obviously booting windows).

All I want to do is backup the phone onto an MMC or SD card, is there a work arround for this, or will I have to do a serial backup with MTTY. Or has anyone managed to do a USB backup with MTTY?
