Guest fraser Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Can anyone recommend any Gameboy games worth getting, that will play well on the emulator. I've tried the games I have, with not very much success. Tetris DX is the only one I'd say was worth playing, and it's perfect. That makes me happy, Tetris is one of the best games of all time! However, I've also tried out Busta Move Millenium and Space Invaders DX. Both of these are great games, but they run far to slow for it to be playable. I've made sure I've had nothing else running, got over 4.5 meg free on IPSM. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to improve things, or other games that are worth digging up?
Guest akarno Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Role playing games are good. Dragon Warrior or Zelda series. I have noticed somthing interesting with the emulator. Many times when I start it up it runs slowly. Looking on Task Manager, nothing extra is running. If I run up a few apps to fill the memory (starting a movie on the Pocket MPV is a good bet), then kill them with Task manager and start Gnuboy straight away, it run about twice as fast. I have no idea why this is.
Guest mudboy Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I've also noticed that behaviour in gnuboy. It does seam strange but doing that does give you a 10-15fps boost
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I've noticed this as well... generally I use task manager and kill everything on the application list except tray (never kill tray unless you want to remove the battery to fix it). But it still varies from one run to the next on speed. My guess is that it's something todo with how the OS allocates memory. So sometimes the ROM and Video RAM end up in memory layed out so they are quick to access and sometimes they don't (fragmentation?) Anyone who knows more about memory management on the smartphone should PM me if they have any ideas  I've found for games I primarily play RPG style ones. A lot of Pokemon (which now runs really nice in 1.03-0.4) and more recently I've really got into Dragon Warriors Monsters. There's also the final fantasy series but I think they are all black and white rather than colour. Black and white games (.gb rather than .gbc) will all tend to run quicker cos they expect a slower cpu.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I run Mario DX, it runs beautifully! Both app and ROM on MMC... P

Guest fraser Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Zelda is no good for me. I only seem to have a 30 min to an hour attention span for most games. Except Vice City of course!!
Guest checkyoulater Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 i have a gameboy...well used to have one i gave it as a gift to my cousin....as well as a whole shitload of rpg titles....how do i extract the rom's from those games? actually i'd just love to try them out on the smartphone, namely, the pokemon collections, i spent a lot and i was wondeering if extracting their roms' is possible????
Guest vijay555 Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 checkyoulater: try searching google for a flash linker. There might be cheaper ways, but for about 40 squid you should be backing up like a pro. V
Guest fraser Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Just download the ones you already own from p2p. Much easier than buying hardware. This should be legal, it's a bit of a grey area in some places, but it's morally sound... You already own the ROM, so there is no copyright violation.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 You already own the ROM, so there is no copyright violation. Even this is a grey area :? some countries alow this, but not all of them.
