Guest drblow Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Sorry, but I thought I would start a new thread here coz I think the last one http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=8305 seems to have diverted off the point somewhat! (at least for me it has!) I have decerted my spv twice now, and have totally lost my gprs connection through internet explorer. I can still send & recieve MMS through GPRS, but internet explorere, orange backup/update,and email send/recieve all say the same thing - 'unable to place call'. I have done a hard reset, checked all data connection settings, had sim updates from orange, got them to turn off & reactivate my GPRS ... still no joy! Anybody got any good suggestions, or am I looking at a replacement handset? Just on that note, I got mine about start of Febuary - anybody know if there have been bug fixes in the actual handset since then?? Should I use this as an opportunity to get a nice shiny new phone??
Guest scooper Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 i got the same problem but on mine i cant even send mms. i got the fone last week and it was like it before i decertified it....... i cant do any gprs. i need help to... guna try my friends simtonite as i think its this...
Guest drblow Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Have you contacted orange? If so what did they say? ("... we have to referthis to our technical dept ... i bet!)
Guest scooper Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 yep ive ahad an argument ive sent a letter of complaing and everything theyve passed it on twice gettin very angry... guna tell em to shuv there gprs up the ass.......
Guest drblow Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Where r you, m8? Is it Orange UK? When you say you've written to complain, is that because they cannot fix the problem? Has anyone at orange offered you a replacement phone or anything? Or are they still looking into the problem?
Guest scooper Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 yeah im orange uk there still looking at it they keep passing it on to tech support and then when they do my account is locked up untill tech support get back to them not offered me anything will try my friends sim and if that works ill phone them up to tell them.... but i was told that i will still have to wait till tech support have sorted the problem
Guest pizdyetz77 Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I had the same problems with Orange GPRS - finally, finally the tech support got back to me and said that they had not properly conected my spv to the gprs network. Basically - all my settings were right - orange just got something wrong. Make sure you get a months free GPRS out of them for thier mistake. They took me through all the - "it must just be in your area" and "perhaps the phone is faulty". It seems like the operators on the phone don't have a clue - best just get referred straight to Tech support. GH
Guest ian.everett Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 I too have been having problems with GPRS in the last few days and also have been told that it is due to area that in live in. I have been told that ALL the GPRS masts in uxbridge and harrow and down and not working and that they have been down for the last 2 weeks! I asked where would I need to go to, to find a working system and was told that I would need to drive 8 miles to watord. But I get the feeling that I'm being given a round around as first I had to remove to battery for 1 hour to reset the cycle on the network, then I had GPRS removed from the account and then added, then I had the settings resent then I set them manualy then we get to the excuse above that the system is down - after spending 4 days of trying to solve this. Can anyone confirm if GPRS is working in Uxbridge or Harrow and has anyone else had this problems. Thanks Ian
Guest scooper Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 mine is finaaly sorted as i had told them already it was my sim card i should get a replacement on monday.. the mast thing is a load of crap.... you telling me that for two weeks people have been without gprs i doubt it... there would be uproar....... i had to argue and argue.. i did a sim swop... i would bet that its your sim card.. tell them you have done a sim swop and tell them you know what the problem is... i had a horrid time.....
Guest drblow Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Scooper - glad u have it sorted! Mine still off. Orange havent got back to me yet, but I'm just wondering ... did orange give you a replacement sim? Did you have to claim on insurance?
Guest scooper Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 nah they authorised a sim replacement... so im hoping its sorted
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Hi, I live in Harrow! My GPRS works fine. The only problem i had was when i had whocall picture manager starting up at start up. This was affecting the GPRS, so it never got passed the dialling stage. But it does work as normal, its never 100% anyway. The thing i am trying out are the DNS settings. I was given 158.43.192.10 and 158.43.128.10 as DNS settings the very first time i had problems. This did sort out the problem. But now i see everyone using 158.43.192.1 and 158.43.128.1! So i am trying to find out which one works best as they both work!

I had exactly the same problem, upgraded to 2.7 and GPRS seems just dandy now. Available for download at http://www.smartphony.org/stories.php?stor...3/03/30/2646025
Guest drblow Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Well, after a day of giving off at Orange for the tech support team taking a week to get back to me and say - 'can you connect to WAP?' - I am getting a replacement handset. I think this is because Orange don't have a clue about what happened to my GPRS, so I'm none the wiser really! Anybody else experiencing similar problems - new handset here we come!!!
Guest simon11 Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 I had trouble with my first spv. Orange told me that the mast was down in my area. They told me to give it a week and ring them back if it was not up and working. Shortly after I found that my problem was I had turned radio off without realising what this did. They seem to be a bunch of w*nkers. Simon.

Guest Lansolve Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Strange thing is that those DNS servers belong to Pipex/UUNet/Worldcom but isn't Orange is part of France Telecom/Equant???
