Well as much as i love microsoft and orange i have to say the phone has gone. After crap battery life , the crap certification issues + my third spv crashing and locking up to the point where it would not even boot it had to go.

I have now moved back to Nokia 7210 and realised that i should never have moved.

The spv will be a great phone one day if all the crap things about it can be sorted out. When it does what is says on the tin i may one day take another look at it.

So this is me saying good bye have fun with your SPV's i hope they get better

well, i aint gettin rid, and it seems pointless posting here if you've got rid of the phone, just seems like sour grapes to me

i tweak this phone more than most, and risk crashing it every day, but my phone is stable as hell and the best mobile phone i have ever purchased by far...period.

@satan: well, have fun using messenger, playing divx & mp3, checking your pop3 mails, freaking around in the registry or creating own homescreens on your small and handish nokia.

i'll stick with spv at least until i get a tanager. i love that little crazy phone with its own attitude. fits to me like a shoe...

@midnight: you are crazy about spv anyway, right? :-)

cheers, lutz

i heard the 7210's had some serious software problems when they were first released? i'll be keeping my SPV

The 7210 has serious software problems. working in customer service in a phone shop the amount of 7210's we get back is amazing, even after i think the 4th software version, not ringing, clock fading, rebooting, infared not working the list goes on and on. I've had the spv for several months, using it on T-Mobile, and i have to say its one of the best phones i've had, it just does so much, and bear in mind there has only been 1 software upgrade and that made a visable difference to the phone. I'll be sticking with my spv until i get another microsoft smartphone, Goodbye dear nokia's!!!

SPV may have its problems but it's unique. When I pull out my SPV people usually take a second look, and say, 'whats that?' which gives me the perfect opportunity to show off its capabilities (usually that Matrix clip on divx or Interstellar flames ). Pull out a Nokia and there you go just another Nokia, nobody takes a second look.

Its good to be different. Especially with a phone that makes you look cool.

im afraid im going back to a "does what it says on the tin" phone too!

I cant fault the SPV for being an excellent all rounder for games, mp3s, notes etc but it fails on its primary function as a phone. calls are missed, the phone hangs and its still far too slow. I know it may be a little more stable in the future but even missing one call is unacceptable in an age where we have become accustomed to responding to a call upon a ring or vibrate and knowing full well that there will ALWAYS be a text or caller on the other end. Im going to revert to old and trusted 8210 for calls. However Im still going to hang on to my SPV and use it as a media centre. Who knows in a few months more bugs will be fixed and even a release of Ozone will be on the cards, but in the meantime me 8210 is calling and guess what...it WILL do what it says on the tin!

I concur with most of the above,

The 7210 is an awfully shocking phone. The graphics are p*** poor to say the least and the "polyphonic" tones sound like they are whacked off on a keyboard...truly abysmal...

Although I admit that my SPV is a flash tool and I have it to impress my mates, it is the most functional phone on the market currently and has helped me and my business activities no end...

Let's face it...it's wicked

Regards

Vaughan

I must be one of the lucky ones who hasn't had a problem with the phone in any way. I would hate to be in the same position as Toothpick being forced to go back to a nasty 8210. It would be so boring looking at the two-tone screen with almost zero customisation. In fact I am getting tired by just the thought of it.

I have had absolutely nothing go wrong with my SPV and i've had it since the beginning of December 2002  i've only done one hard reset and that was only when i was doing the decert process.

Ewww, the 7210, my 10 year old brother is just about content with that phone.

As I work in the mobile phone industry, I've played around with many of the newest nokia phones that aren't even out in this country yet, In my opinion they are all either ugly, featureless (eg: 4096 colour screen/crap camera), or both.

I think I speak for many in this forum in saying the SPV/Tanger is a excellent phone considering it MS/HTC's first shot.

Look at nokia, they've had so many years in the industry, and when they first released a simple handset like the 8310 it had a whole bunch of

software problems. e.g: handset resets when u send texts. and how many thousands of handsets did they ship out before they realised???

I've had my SPV since November and I wouldnt trade my SPV for anything else out on the market at the moment.

hmmm, strange, i've never had a missed or dropped call at all, it definitely isnt slow (what are you people doing to say its slow, am i missing something????), NEVER crashes unless i do something REALLY silly in the registry (hey, i like living on a knife edge )

I actually believe that nokia have lost the plot and are getting desperate (i mean, look at the n-gage, trying to compete with nintendo???? prepare to get mud on your face nokia), the 7650 has been a flop, the 3650 seems to be going the same way and general opinion is it is totally ugly, and people complain about the spv keypad, thats nothing compared to the 3650 circular erm, think (what next a proper rotating dial like the old analog phones?), i havent owned a nokia for several years now, and truthfully i dont think i'll go back unless they do something truly revolutionary.

Oh, and my old Sony J5 had waaay more problems than my spv and that had a very basic OS. i think all the spv bashers actually work for 'the register' hehe

ive been using the spv for a couple months and it works fantasticly! Never drops any calls, never crashes, great programs, great calendar, great email, i love how it syncs with active sync.. its overall the best phone ive ever seen (except the spvx) :-D

I can proudly say i have never owned a nokia mobile

My j70 had more problems than the SPV (eg the sound cutting out in the middle of writing an sms, only way to get it back and ring was to reboot...).

SPV rocks and don't you forget it ;p

I've always liked Nokia's because of there ease of use. I struggled with an analogue Motorola for my first phone.. Ruddy Awful!

I then had an NK502/3 Banana Phone, Loved it.. Then a 6210.. Bit ruff but loved that too.. Got it a week after it came out and had it for over 2 years.

I was thinking of getting a 7210 back last Aug/Sept when it was due out. But it never came out. My Bro got an SPV soon after it came out. He convinced me to get an SPV and, although it had been taken off the shelves in the shops, I managed to get hold of one just before christmas.

I now encoding my dvd films for it so I can watch them on the way to work. I got Shrek on it at the mo. When people see the phone, they always say what's that? The second comment I get is it's got a big screen? I then say hold on a sec & open MVP and show them the films. No-one beleives me at first when they see it, they comment on the quality. I've convinced more than one person already to part with their money for an SPV.

I should be a salesperson on these things.

The looks on the Bus and Train are pretty cool as well. I won't be getting rid of my SPV for a long time.

I have owned a Nokia 3210, 7210, 8210 and a 8850. The 8850 was a superb little phone with a sliding keyboard cover. Solidly made and a real beauty. When I was in the shop buying my spv i recieved a call on my 8850 and even the sales girl was impressed. She hadn't seen one before.

Sadly I have now passed it on to my son as I wanted something with more functionality. My first spv went back within a week. Poor battery life, hanging, locking up, intermittent Gprs. I waited until the Uk upgrade and bought another. It is a joy to use. I love fiddling with it and people who see it are amazed and think it must have cost a fortune. I bring smiles to a lot of peoples face when my polyphonic Doctor who theme music plays as I recieve a call. I was out with my dogs the other day when it rang. The lady I was talking to went into uncontrollable laughter and fell in a ditch whilst laughing that much. Great that! Even if she dose think I am a dick head. I have looked at every other phone and could not find anything as tempting as this phone. Not even the P800.

I will add that I think that Nokia have gone way downhill since the 8850 and that I think most of their phones look crap and are crap. This comes from an ex Nokia owner that at one time thought the were by far the best.

Simon.

I just noticed how much my freezing rate has dropped. It must have been the update. It hasn't frozen in a month or two, where it used to freeze a few times a week.

I love my SPV to bits but some of the arguments here are a little far fetched.

The 7650 being a flop?! Its sold far more than the SPV & P800 combined, with little over the SPV in terms of time on the shelf (Yes I know the SPV is only available on Orange). Its hardly been a flop.

Nokia's (In particular the 7210) being more unstable than the SPV? The 6100 & 6610 are also based upon Series 40 and are rock solid. The latest revision of the 7210 is a stable as you will find. The 7250 is perfect right out the box.

The SPV is slower than the P800 or 7650, has limited 3rd party software compared to Symbian handsets, has no support for Java or bluetooth, has the worst MMS/Camera client of any of the handsets on sale in UK and takes an age to boot up. I've not even mentioned the keypad yet!

Lets be honest, to get the most out of the SPV you need to be willing to tinker with it. Joe Public isn't interested in doing this, and while DivX may be cool, is it a reason to buy a phone? Probably not for most consumers who've never heard of the format.

There pluses and minuses to all handsets, and as the SPV is aimed at a niche market, as far as the general public is concerned, it has more minuses than pluses when compared to other phones of a similar price.

ok, maybe my assessment of the 7650 aint true (i only heard this from a friend of mine who works at the link who says they simply arent selling whereas the spv's are flying off the shelf and are constantly running out)

i get your point about the spv not being a mass market phone, thats true, orange know it, we know it, hence the release of the SPVx and more than likely somekind of marketing campaign this time

but, as for software support, the spv hasnt been available for all that long, symbian has been around for ages so of course there is more software for symbian os's, but as you can see, the number of software is increasing on a daily basis and with the recent change in certification etc that will increase the number of apps developed.

bluetooth is coming (altho, seriously, who can afford bluetooth accessories, 120 quid for a mono headset, not likely), if you want a good camera dont get one for on a phone, they are all naff (in fact, the pics i saw where roughly the same as the 7650), if the phone works well (like mine), you dont need to reboot so the reboot time is irrelevant, in fact the only slight complaint i have is battery life (even tho i spent 15 hours the other day leaving the backlight permanently on to test the low battery warning sound for the registry tweak). as for the speed of the phone, i dont understand, mine is quick, dunno what people are doing to them to make em slow, the only exception is possibly windows media player and the reason that takes a while to load is that it searches both the phone and the sd card for media it can play.

the only phone that comes close to features of the spv is the p800 and that is at least twice the price at the moment

if i would want JUST a phone and nothing else, then the SPV isnt for your casual user, but if you want a phone with music, movies, games, apps, nothing can touch the spv for its price (jeez, i sound like a spv rep or somethin)
