Guest theodotcom Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Has anyone noticed that when you load the new (much improved! thanks spacemonkey) gameboy emulator, from the time it loads to the list of roms till the time u exit it, the backlight STAYS on! I don't know much about coding them but wouldn't it be possible to use the code that does that in other applications? It would be nice if it was added to something like pocketdivx. I left it on the rom list where there is no activity on screen for 10 mins and the backlight stayed on, where it nomally turns off after 30 seconds.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Forget PocketDivX, we need it for TORCH! MS couldn't provide me with a suitable code snippet to make the backlight stay on! P
Guest theodotcom Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Well Paul i hope it could be used for more than one app, haha
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Pocket Divx does keep the backlight on. Try hitting 7 while playing a clip  Its open source as well (download from my site, see sig) so any of you code monkeys could probably extract the piece assigned to the "7" key...
Guest HelloDave Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I think Pocket Divx keeps the backlight on by changing the timeout to infinite in the registry, and then resetting it when you exit the program. Hexacto have also worked out how to keep the backlight on in their games but obviously they're not open source! (Problems with the backlight staying on sometimes when you quit their games suggests they used the registry hack too!)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Or that they are still running in the background...
Guest midnight Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 i would have thought theres a better way of doing it than changing the registry, but hey, what do i know
Guest theodotcom Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Oh my word Mololithix thanks a lot! I never knew that... Serves me right for not reading the attached readme file! THANKS!!!
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Now that you come to mention it I realise you are right about gnuboy... The backlight stays on all the time. If you pause it (pressing voice record) they on the paused menu screen it will backlight timeout... It definitely doesn't use the registery method used in pocket divx, but to be honest I have no idea how or why it does it... I'll have a look through the code tonight and see if I can figure it out
